Default Battery light flickered & kicked on service engine soon light

Was driving down the road when it happened. No accessories except radio was on. The light has flickered before without the service engine light coming on but now this is the second time the light flickered and the service engine light popped on.
Anyone have any ideas on what to check?
When it happened first time checked the Volt meter and it was reading between 14.6 an dropped to 14.0.

TIA.

Year of car??

14.6v seems a little high even considering that the factory volt display cam be a little off. Get the codes and post them; that will help with diagnosis.

Advance Auto will scan your codes for free...if you don't have a scanner, have them check it out.

It's a 93.

Know how to pull the codes but unsure which pins to "jump".

jump pin 4 to pin 12. They are, top and bottom, the 4th slot from the left. So, fourth from the left, connect the top row to the bottom row. There are pictures floating around the forum somewhere; a search should pretty quickly pull 'em up.
