which head is better AFR or DART PRO,1s
I build a few performance engines and the question came up as to which of these two max performance 23deg heads would work best, so after doing some research, heres a typical professional porters reply to the question of which eads are best
the AFR flow better out of the box but the DART PRO 1s are the prefered head for extensive porting and can be ported to flow bigger numbers by someone that knows how!heres what a professional porting shop says on the DART PRO- 1 heads: http://www.ondoperformance.com/
here is a average sheet on a set of the 230cc versions, they finish up at
238cc's. for a full stage 3 job the price is $975.00, a stage 2 would be
$650.00. intake matching is $75.00

We get 700+ hp with the stage 3 230cc pro1's on our 406ci motors. Obviously this is a full race piece. It is a steel rod motor, compression is slightly above 15to1, a very aggressive roller cam, I wont go into specifics but I will say it is in the .800 lift range, the dart intake (it makes more on the dyno than the edelbrock super victor) and a 1000cfm hp series holley. this same motor in my 2800lb rustang (yea I hear you bitching) went 9.48 @144 with a 1.28 60ft right off the trailer, this is a naturally aspirated motor. As in interesting side note I see much talk about the afr's and while they may suit the needs of many they are definitely not the hot ticket for a race application. case at point was a customer who ran a 377 with the cnc afr 220 heads, the car is 2900 lbs and the best he could run after a solid year of tuning was a 10.44, we did a stage2 set of 230cc pro1's and made no other changes to the car or motor, he immediately dipped into the 9's. Now if this isn’t a apples to apples comparison then I don’t know what is. He currently runs the super victor and is making the switch to the dart intake with a bigger header and is going to upgrade to the stage3 porting. He should easily be in the low 9's. With juice this combo will dip into the high 8's. It’s important to keep in mind what your particular goals are. Most want a hot street car while others want the hottest street car, its up to each individual to do what makes themselves happy and its my job to try to get my customers to reach their goals, be it a hot 355 23 degree motor or a 7 second 18degree motor, hell it can even be a little 8 second 347ci ford rustang , I know you don’t want to hear about fords but there are plenty of 8sec rustang s out there and it is best for you to be educated on your competition. With all that being said, if I can help anyone or if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks, Jeff at http://www.ondoperformance.com
