You can always buy aftermarket caps(Milodon, i think) and pay for the work to be done. How many LT-1's and LS-1's with two bolt caps have revved real high...with no issue.

PS: I understand that there are some 'late-model' truck Vortec blocks that do have the 4-bolt mains, though.

Wow thats about the most misinformed post ever..
Anyway thanks for the info, I never tore apart a vette L98 so I wasn't sure.. not that it makes any difference but just wanted to clear it up. For what it's worth my 86 has splayed mains

If your making over 550-600 hp, I would want a 4 bolt main block.

Face it a factory L98 was rpm challenged and didn't need 4 bolt mains.

If your ditching the TPI and building a screamer a 2 bolt main block is a better proposition than factory 4 bolt since you can go for splayed main caps.
Mike
correct 5300 was about it and that's pushing it very hard

Wasn't the original question about factory stock engines? Or are we looking for bragging rights about who can spend the most money?

Notice both of the comments were done in humor...

And my complete engine assembly cost less than many spend on "bolt ons" due to me managing the project and doing much of the work myself. At approximately $4000, it was a bargain. So I don't think I, nor the other gent, were looking for "bragging rights about who can spend the most money". It was stated as humor.

And with much higher HP levels, billet splayed caps were an absolute requirement for my combo.
