Im rebuilding my 85 engine, and Im leaving it stock, with the exception of the heads. I have a set of world s/r torquers that Id like to put on.
Anyone have an idea what kind of difference these heads would make hp wise?
I was planning on some minor porting- I just wasnt sure if the lager valve size of the world head would cause a drop in intake velocity, and hurt hp in my stock setup
You likely won't notice any HP gain unless they have smaller cc and will raise your compression ratio. FYI - "s/r" stands for "stock replacement". A buddy of mine put a set on his '77, and there was no noticeable difference.
While you have the engine torn down enough to swap heads, it's not that much more work to swap your cam out. You'll get more punch from going to a larger cam.

A cam will really help, plus any head and intake porting you can do while it's apart will help some too.
If you leave it stock, you will see minor HP gains. The stock intake, runners, plenum and exhaust are the bottlenecks on the L98. Change out these and the head capabilities will start to be realized. The heads are not the best, but better than stock.

Larger valve size with stock lift can cause a power loss. The larger valve is shaded by the side of the combustion chamber. This can depend on how much largerthe valves are. A 2.02 will not start to flow better until the lift is over 1/2 inch.
