Default car dies:temp says LO

Hey guys,
My 1996 lt4 keeps dying and wont restart unless I floor it.I guess it thinks it has a holley on it.ha ha.Anyway,It started dying on me and wont hardly run unless its wide open throttle.I noticed the temperature numbers jumping around and sometimes say Lo, followed by SYS.Im stuck at a friends house and I dont carry an obd II code reader with me so Im trying to limp home so I can pull the codes.I pulled the connector off of the temp sensor on ther passenger head but it didnt help.I installed a meziere w/pump a couiple weeks ago and noticed a sensor underneath it.Could this be the faulty sensor?Im hoping to unplug the problem to limp home.If the sensor also controls the cooling fan, maybe I could run the a/c on for cooling. The last time it was towed, they tore up my front valance so that will be my last resort.Id sure appreciate any ideas,Junior

I would double check the CTS sensor at the waterpump. It sends resisance signals to the PCM for engine temp. It is also where the digital coolant temp readout on the dash comes from and is needed so the PCM can ground the fans. The sender in the passenger side head is where the analog coolant temp readout comes from.

I think either the connection at the CTS is not good or the sensor has failed..

If you are getting a low coolant temp alarm, unplugging the sensor will not help. When the circuit is open that tells the computer that its really cold. It will probably shut down even quicker.

The connection may not be clean, poor connection or intermittent connection. You could look at the sensor connector and make sure both sockets can be seen easily, not loose and being pushed back by plugging in. A new sensor is $15-25 bucks. New pigtail is about $10.

Plug the connector in and remove it a couple times, if everything is ok and you have a dirty connection this should get you going til you get home and clean it.
