I SMELL FUEL/GAS......
Whenever I get in the vehicle I smell it....I checked around the car and under the hood...donŐt see anything wrong.....no leaks....its worst inside the vehcle when the car is not running....once I start it....it seems to go away...
Only other place I smell it is the passenger side rear wheelwell....
I also have been monitoring my gas consumption very carefully....again I donŐt see a problem......18 downtown and 30 highway....and I am not missing any fuel while it sits for a while.....nothing on the ground....
Anybody else have this problem...?
I am gonna jack it up and check more carefully this weekend....
any other ideas would be appreciated.....

possible gas tank leak, but that would throw a code for vacuum loss so i dont know for sure if thats it, but my old 260Z has the same problem.

Check your fuel cap and replace if old. There is a vapor line that runs from your tank to a purge cannister up front. This line can clog in time. Get yourself a manual and this system is shown and explained.
Good Luck. :yesnod:

If your vapor system is the same as mine, jack up the back of the car and under the car on the drivers side in front of the back tire is a steel line that runs to the gas tank. There will be a tiny rubber hose connecting it in 2 areas.Youll need to look closely for them following the frame area.
If this smallrubber line cracks, it will give off a gas smell.
Mine split there and I replaced the rubber hose there to stop the smell.
Theres also another rubber line you can see by droppng the spare tire cover and on the drivers side of the car is another steel line..check that and the rubber hoses on thatside of the tank byremoving the gas door and lifting it off the car and using a flashlight to look in there from the top.

My 87 leaked on the ground, but before it got so bad it left a wet spot , I could smell gas and it was the steel line from the gas tank that comes down the right side and runs along the frame to the engine. It rusted through (pinhole), but the car always ran ok.
