Default L98's... Do They Have Rev Limiters?

Just curious. I strung my car out a few times, and heard like a limiter stutter....prolly near 6000(I'd be more accurate..but my tach does NOT work, and I shift by feel). I am wondering if LPE Set the limiter too low? or do I have a miss I didn't correct. I just matted it pretty hard, boy does it bark second nicely when manually shifted!(In "D" it shifts too low, trans needs adjustment) Just curious. I REALLY need to get the good tach in there.

Thanks.......oh the heads and cam idea is scrapped...too much $$$ and not enough HP. Looks like it's time for me to get my own slicks/skinnies :D The one's Panuzzo has.

It kinda has one, it is a fuel shutoff. It has to be programmed in the chip, and from the factory it is not set. Well it is, but at something like 20k revs. :D You don't wanna be running lean like that too long though. ;) Are you running the stock ignition? Pick up an MSD box for a couple of hundred and have a real spark cutoff. :)

What the stock L98 rev's are limited by are valve springs and weak **** cam.

Makes you feel like revving it up doesn't it? :nonod:

I guess you have better stuff in your 383 though. :chevy

Thanx Scorp.... Just got off the horn with a reputable source, and it turns out they do have them.( I just had to know right away) I'll confirm it with LPE Monday, and have them turn it up a little higher.

Thanks for the reply.

Does your car have a different computer than mine? All I have is the fuel cutoff, which can be scary.:)

7727 processor... in the engine bay. I just get a sound like it's hitting an MSD Style limiter at the top of first. It did it on one of my runs also. Pulls clean otherwise. It's prolly something simple.

do you have a custom chip? The default fuel rpm cutoff is 10,031rpm! I've set mine on my car to 5500 I think, but I've never hit it because it shifts at around 5200. (It's stock)

I set Scorps to 6600 for his Superram setup.

Hi Craig....

Yep, LPE/Custom chip. 10,000? SHEIOT!! I hope it isn't set that high! Otherwise I've got a problem I didn't know of,or didn't fix. Hmmm, :) Thats all I can do is smile! No biggy. After all I have been through with this car, it's business as usual. Fix one, find another! :D

asked TPIS the same question awhile ago, there answer is they have never seen an L98 with a rev limiter stock, the runners not flowing enough air is what cuts the car back most the time

The feller who did my chip at ED Wright flat out told me he didn't set a limiter so I hooked up the msd

And that's the best way to limit rpms... with the ignition. Fuel cutoff is okay if you never use nitrous. It still seems kinda harsh compared to spark cutoff, but it's better than nothing I guess!

Craig, do you have any idea why they built the rev limiter into the computer and then effectively disabled it by setting it unrealistically high???

That's freakin wierd

Hey Scorp...thats nothing...I had to set my 383's MSD limiter all the way up to 7200 RPM because I kept hitting it ( I just didn't feel comfortable going any higher than that ) :D

:chevy
