my 86z51 is too stiff for "open road" use here in "no work" state...really NOT fun to drive...i change to a non-z51 rear spring (takes less than an hour) for 'normal' driving and the ride is MUCH better...if driven BEYOND sanity, the front end does "push" a bit in corners with the softer non-z51 rear spring in, but not severe.

btw, all rear springs interchange 84-96...front springs 84-87 only and fronts 88-96 only.

84s are known to ride like a buckboard! Especially if you have Z51.

I've got an 84 Z51 and I love the ride. Yeah, some of the sharper potholes bump yer head into the roof, but it corners like it's on rails. I'm running Tokico shocks right now cause they're the same price as the KYB's and they don't leak as often, and I think it's fine. The Blisteins did make it ride rougher, but they were also getting pretty shot when I removed them. Mine's also got Kumho 712s on it right now, but I didn't notice a change in ride quality when I put them on, just a reduction in road noise and better grip in the corners.

If ya want a cushy ride get a later car with the adjustable suspension. Me, I like it rough

I have the shocks sold by Mid-America designed to "soften" up the Z51s ride. This is on my '86, and they did help. The stockers were probably shot anyway. When I went to 17/18" wheels, the new tires helped too, and It's not too bad a ride. A spring change might be the fix for you.

I'll swap you my 87 rear spring for your 84 rear spring.
I put a Z51 spring in the front of my car already, I just need the rear now.

I previously had an '89, which I found to ride like a buckboard sans suspension, but I'd guess that it rode smoother than an '84.

My '95 (base suspension) actually rides pretty well. It's practically in the same league of ride quality as a 2000 BMW M Roadster I sold. 50 times more rattles and creaks in the Vette, but the ride is pretty decent...
