Default New Clutch for my 89 Coupe

Well, it's time for a new clutch. Any recomendations on what brand to go with. I want something a little better than stock.

Thanks, Rick

I would suggest searching in this forum first. And the C4 General Discussion forum.

There are tons of threads about replacing the clutch for the ZF transmission.

The flywheel is very unique and no longer available.

I'm missing three things to do the swap, Time, correct tools and the knowledge to do it. I just wanted to know the "best brand" to go with and have my local corvette shop do the work. Thanks for the reply and I will do a search.

How many miles are on your car? You will need to determine if you need to replace the dual mass fly wheel in lieu of a single mass.

You should be good to reuse it. I scuffed up mine with maroon scotch brite pads per zfdocs recommendation. Check out Carolina Clutches for a good stock replacement.

I used Carolina Clutch on my 89. Just buy the kit. However I would throw away the Chinese throw out bearing they send. Then buy a Delco t/o bearing. The Chinese one only lasted 4-5 k before it came apart. There is a noticable difference in the two. Just foor for thought
Good luck!

Where did you get a new made in USA Delco TO bearing? I am pretty sure even the delco's are made in China now. I took a gamble and used the supplied carolina clutch throwout bearing, so far so good. (knock on wood ).

Replaced my clutch/flywheel last year with a Carolina Clutch kit. The chatter is terrible. Not the noise, (there is noise though) but the driveablity. Feels like I am trying to start out in 3rd gear going up hill. Had some machine work done on my old dual mass flywheel and am about ready to put it back in with new PP, Clutch plate and TOB. Hope it cures my problem. It just wasn't fun to drive anymore with that solid SPEC flywheel. I wish you luck.
