L98 dual exhaust
I've heard and read a lot about LTx systems being used, is anybody running this Random Tech system?

Bought the whole thing from MELROSE for L-98 vert. Had headers jet hot and really happy the only problem was the extension tubes by the tranny(RT makes them) fitting problem around the tranny, worked it out with the guys from MELROSE (Chris and his dad ). I think now RT has solved the problem with the extension tubes and yes you are right "they sure lok purty!"
wro87
the price was about $1200 that was no air, no egr, no cats, and did include all clamps and Jet-hot.

See above for the PRICE not cheap but looks nice. Spent about another 100bucks for mufflere eliminators and SS megaphone tips.
Real happy with the sound had resonance until mufflers changed TOTALY REMOVED !
wro87
Wife thinks its loud but it is suprisingly quite at speed and cruise until you smash the go fast peddle.

I have this system on mine. Because I am currently swapping out a few things I pulled it down (below is a pic.)
The system overall is made well and of high quality stainless, and all slip joints and mandrill bends and welds in rear where it necks down to 2 1/2" are excellent.
The down sides are: fitment to the 700 r which is pretty tight at the linkage (m6 will fit great) and trans cable bracket will need re-working. In the rear, there is only the stock l98 style hanger(rubber band) to the c beam which will break easily and no other brackets provided, except for the stock muffler hangers at the rear. Clearnace to the drivers side heat shield will be tight and shield will need some tweaking.
You may be able to notice I used the LT style brackets (will need the LT tabs welded to the pipes and not included) in the rear along with a solid rod (w/rubber shock mount) for the c beam location support. I had most of the system welded at the slip joints for take down puposes but is not really needed, as the slip joints will seal well w/good band clamps. I mounted the cats up front but can be located as in RT pics. (room will be tight their way though)I believe when I bought it approx.3 years ago I spent around 990. 00 complete as shown by RT, incl: cats, x' crossover, front extensions and rear tubes (as seen in pic from RT) and of course no band clamps or mufflers included.

Here's the response I just got from RT
We sell part number 33-330902 for $170.54 (front adapter pipes) and part number 172-30915 for $630.40 (converters x-pipe section). We would not offer discounts for a group purchase, but some of our dealers might.

MELROSE makes the headers (anyway you would like), it is the rest of the stuff they get from RT. above the bend and slip joints are great and the wide clamps are the only way to go.
Good Luck wro87
And also like above ours was a auto and I think the manual would be a better fit.

I have been looking for this type of set up. How is the resonance. I will be putting on Lingenfelter headers and a set up like this, but I haven't decided on mufflers. My biggest concern is resonance.

yes, I belive I still do and will look at some of my stored pics. If not since I have it down I will pull it out in the drive way and shoot a couple for you.
I agree that there are other ways/methods, I'm not sure about the 700+hp being a requirement.

anesthes, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but with the nitrous I'll be all that or more at the wheels

yes if I remember it was at least 2 boxes. All tubes were wrapped seperately and pretty much scratch free, to be honest it looked real pretty, made me have to be carefull although the Stainless is pretty reasonable gauge. I am looking for you now if I don't find any good ones I 'll shoot some in the morn. and post them (inc. the weld joints etc.).
No, I know he's (anethes) is making a point. The necking down from the x' will help keep the exhaust velocity. I didn't really think it was that much of a hinderance in low end, then again I worked pretty hard w/the tune. and the combo in general helped. My new one will see spray in the future, this one will be starting over 5 na....guess I'll need to hit it w/a 200 shot.

Safety Car
I know everyone "loves" huge tube diameter dual exhaust. But what do you think you really *need* ?? I used to run 120mph passes with SINGLE 3" exhaust, into a 1in dual out crossflow muffler. (Fbody).
(9.4" area)
My buddies maverick used to beat me at 125 mph passes with dual 2" exhaust.
(12.4" area)
My other friend with his long tubes, full 3" dual exhaust, x-pipe, etc with a very similar combination as me went 112mph. His previous exhaust (identical to mine, shorties, 3" single) went 112mph.. He thought the duals sounded better though, and I guess I could agree there for a race car.
(18.8" area)
So while 700hp might be a slight exaggeration, a combination like mine which is probably around 500hp won't benefit much, if at all, from an exhaust like the one posted over my dual 2.25" h-pipe setup.
I spent a lot of years trying different exhaust setups out on my fbody, and nothing really effected 1/4 mi mph by more than a mph in either direction, which could probably be more attributed to ambient temperature and humidity.
