what could this be please ??
does this mean that it is stuffed??
what can i do to fix it ??
can i buy a alternator rebuild kit from some where may be that i can fix myself ??
this is the second darn alternator that i have brought from them now.
im getting tired of this!!!!
hope to get some help.

According to FSM noise problem could be:
1. loose drive pulley
2. loose mounting bolts/screws
3. worn or dirty bearings
4. faulty diode or faulty stator
Me? I'd replace the badboy! Might be able to return bad one under warranty??

I would replace it
Mine started with a real bad noise
and one day ...it froze !
The bearings were destroyed inside
and i couldn't start the car ! it was stuck !
watch out !
take it off and inspect it,if you say a buzzing sound with the ignition off...might be a electric issue, something not good waiting to happen
service it asap !
Buzzing noise when it is off indicates the field is still being supplied current from the battery. Not good, but not the alternators fault because the alternator gets field current via the ignition switch. You might have a defective ignition switch.
hi there jfb ,
thanks for your continued replies guys.
i did for get to mention that i am running my power supply for my csr brand elecetric water pump of the alternator bolt/nut fitting!!
now at the moment i have removed my elecetric water pump now tha thave i modified it all for my new 388 race motor so all the wiring is there connected but no water pump motor plugged into any thing.
would this have any thing to do with the alternator buzzing may be ??
i have never hear this buzzing noise before though!!
could it be a diode inside alternator may be thats gone ??
can you buy alternator rebuild kits ??
may be the relay is supplying power there though ??
also i have problem wity my daylight running lights glowing very dim while power/igntion is off also!!
As mentioned above,I would check for a faulty ignition switch. Then I would check over the electrical connections to see if a battery wire is contacting any contacts before the switch.
All the way diodes can fail will not produce a buzzing noise in the alternator. The ignition switch is suspect because of the additional symptom of your running lights staying on dimly. My money is on a defective ignition switch.
I haven't seen anyone offering alternator rebuild kits, but I am sure someone sells alternator repair parts and maybe rebuild kits for do-it-yourselfers. Check local auto electrical repair shops.
hi jfb,
thanks for your info and help.
what can make a ignition switch to stuff up ??
when you mention igntion switch,do you mean where you fit the key in ??
if so,i will have to pull steering column apart ??
also while im at it i need to replace the turning signal switch/stork as it is broken and is missing a pin also and i think the wires inside might be touching also!!
thanks
The ignition lock on the column is not where the ign sw is, a rod from the ignition lock actuates the ignition switch just behind the dash in C4's. I'd examine the rod action, then the ignition switch itself.
