96 No Start Problem
A friend of mine has a 96 with about 100k on it. The battery and starter are relatively new (within the last year). He recently drove it for a few minutes turned it off and then a few minutes later when he went to start it ..nothing. No crank, etc. He tried it a few times, still nothing and then he heard a clicking noise coming from passenger side of the car. He disconnected the negative battery cable and reconnected it. Then the car started no problem. My initial thought was a VATS problem, but what could cause the clicking noise? It wasn't the starter and was clicking with the key out of the ignition switch. It continues to start ok now but we're concerned it may not be reliable.

There isn't enough information to determine the exact cause of the no crank, BUT, I believe the clicking was from the anti-theft circuit relay preventing the no crank. Disconnecting the battery cable allows a reset of the anti-theft circuit and until the anti-theft circuit acts up again, I believe the car will start reliably.
