Default Throttle Bodies

OK, what is a good quality throttle body. I have read some stories about the bearings going bad on some....

Which ones are good?

Perhaps a monoblade...

Thanks

I've got a 58mm holley and have no complaints!

I've always wondered about the as&m monoblade though, wonder if you need that much air...?

I have an Arizona Speed and Marine 58mm billet TB...it's a beautiful piece! They are a bit more expensive, but to me it's worth it.

AS&M is top of the line ($$$). I have a BBK. It took a little tweaking, but now works fine.

I have heard bad things about BBK and good about Holley but I am old school and remember Holley 750 double pumpers.

not for the 58mm billet unit, I bought mine from their ebay store for about 30 less then their site at the time.

TPIS SITE - Billet 58mm Throttle Body (1100 cfm): We also offer a throttle body for those who have larger tuned port motors and especially Mini-Ram equipped motors. The 58mm throttle body features a built in air foil and flows just over 1100 CFM.
The 58mm is a custom billet aluminum piece with precsion ball bearings, and there is no exchange. This Throttle Body is good for up to 600 HP normally aspirated.

If you order a 52mm throttle body without sending us a core, you will have to pay a refundable core fee.

I just got a stock one that has been rebushed and bored to 52mm. Working fine for me, especially for the $170 I paid for it.

I've run the BBK 52mm TB for over 8yrs with no problems save for the need to file down the front of their chitty casting.

If you need a 58mm I strongly suggest AS&M; when I was working in Mesa, AZ I stopped in at AS&M and their TB is a piece of art indeed.

Have you done the math on the max air flow for your motor to see if you need a 58mm or will a 52mm do the job. The smallest TB that will work at WOT gives the crispest throttle response.

I've got the ASM 58mm and while it is pretty, I have issues with it.
My car has ASR (standard?) but the cam that the throttle cable attaches too doesn't ramp up the same way my stock one did. They
retro fitted a stock cam (not sure what this piece is called) and I still have issues with travel, it's either open to much at idle, or won't quite open all the way at WOT. They said I was only the 2nd case they'd ever heard of this, but they don't know what to do to really fix it.
We've adjusted the cable at the ASR, and can only change whether it's off at idle, or wide open.
They sell the same part number whether it's for an fbody, ybody, ASR or not.

I have seen a large 52mm/58mm throttle body available on ebay from professional products. I have heard good things about these guys in the mustang camp, but I am not quite sure if the quality is indeed up to "standard" for a swap on a vette. The price is very attractive compared to all other vendors.

Also, on a side note, do you guys think that the TB added a noticeable difference? Was it worth the investment (i.e. power to dollar's sent)?

Not on a stock car. I am going to a 427, which will require it. It has no value on a stock motor.

I know it wouldnt fit, but I always liked the "flying toilet" throttle bodies.

I would probably stick with a holley.

That is the part that stinks. As soon as you put the coupler on it, you can't see them anymore. Man, if you are going 427 with big heads and cam, you might be elligible for a monoblade.

I know! everytime I take off the coupler I just look at 'em for a minute.

And I would guess a monoblade may not be needed, but it won't be overkill either. What cfm doesn the monoblade flow?
