have a 96 Mostly stock that has always always idled just a bit high. comes in at around 950 or so and its just enought that it makes the car pull a bit too much from a dead stop while in drive. Checked for vacuum leaks and there were none. MAF bellows were good. Any ideas?
Throttle position sensor maybe. Mine went bad this week and it would idle at around 1000. Computer cannot see the throttle and stays in open loop. Is it running rich?
Not sure if its running rich as I have an extremley poor sense of smell so that always makes it a bit harder. I have quite a few known good sensors so i'll give it a shot. Guess I'll hook up the scanner and check the long and short term fuel trims.

Messed around with the tps it checked out fine. Odd thing is is is a bit slow to return to idle speed from about 1500 and under. Is it possible that the IAC motor is hung open just a bit with carbon or a foreign object?

Thats a good thought. I wonder if the TB is hanging up too might be something else to check see if it hits the stop or try twisting it back and see what it idles at. At any rate it does sound like a TB issue. What voltage was the TPS reading at idle?
yep it has a hotcam and 1.6RRs. The IAC throttle body was clogged to hell with carbon cleaned it up and much better. Funny thing is i noticed the throttle cable is not letting the throttle return all the way closed. Any way to mess with that a bit? Dont remember exactly what it the tps voltage came in at but it was less than .60
There is a release button between the ASR and TB it is a little square block the center of it is the release. When you push it it tightens the cable then push the throttle to the floor to readjust it you should hear some clicks as it stretches out after it hits the stop.
