It will be worth the effort.......trust me on that one Look at Beach's post #14 above.........the last paragraph in particular. There's just too many of us happy with our big cube SBCs to ignore their merit. The only words of advice I have are to choose your combo & goals carefully so your parts compliment each other!

I always thought the 400 would be fun to try out with a FIRST TPI system as far as a mild streetcar goes. Tons of torque and no need to rev it to the moon to make power (although those are fun too but get pricy quick).

Like you need more torque, Mr. 54,856 ft. lbs at the tires.

Not trying to hijack the thread but I've been amassing parts and doing research for my other "toy" build; an 86 Chevy Silverado 4x4 I'm going to lift, bigger axels, etc... I have wrapped up a 400 block still with the factory bore. It's going to end up as a 406 with a modified factory TPI. Extrude Hone base, AS&M runners, ported plenum and so on. I'm only looking for an RPM peak around 5000 or so. In fact I could care less about HP just give me a nice fat torque curve from about 1200 to 4500 and I'll be happy. With the proper combo of heads/cam/TPI mods and good chip tune this motor should put out Big Block torque numbers. As someone else mentioned ensure your honest with yourself as to the intended application for your build. The factory TPI will never put out huge HP numbers, however if the combo is put together correctly they will make an incredibly fun motor to drive on the street.
