Default non-ram air?

I have a 84 and noticed that the radiator shroud doesn't have a cut out for the ram air. The hood has a built in tunnel system and rubber seals that mate up to the air cleaner. Wouldn't the system work better if it could get air?

The only modification that I know of for the "84" air intake, is too connect the two air intake holes on the front radiator shroud which will end up looking like an oval, then surround it with foam tape as a gasket to seal it. It's not Ram air but, it's more air.

I'm not sure if the upper part of the hood has to also, be cut to match the bottom section.

Cut a jole in the shroud to match the one at the leading part of the hood, use weatherstrip to provide a seal when the hood is closed. It was originally intended to work this way , hence the underhood ductwork, but chevy got cold feet , apparently worried about injesting water of all things.

That is a good question. Not sure if anyone ever placed a IAT sensor there to determine. Certainly there is more heat directly above the motor. Now the TB's are using air that is above the radiator shroud. Is that a dead air space? I believe it is. Shroud directs the air to radiator. I believe the fan is a pusher not a puller. I am not sure on that but my fan goes off over a certain speed so must be a pusher. Now if a hole was cut at top of shroud would not hot air rise off radiator(200F) and get pulled into the duct? Possibly the non cut shroud may be in fact cooler?

My cold air:

PS: I do have IAT control of fueling with my EBL ECU.

The hole pulls air from in front of the rad. It is cooler and naturally the more speed you have the more effective it is. Without the hole in the shroud , you are only pulling in hot, underhood air. I made multiple runs at HRP, thencut the hole and added the weatherstrip the same night. I saw a consistant .1 sec and 1mph gain.

Interesting!!! I wonder why a hole wasn't cut. Seems to me that the car the way it sits is starving for air. How did Chevy do it in 82?

82 used cowl induction. At the last minute, according to a couple of books -this is what i've read, not necessarily true-GM legal counsel , worried about the possibility of "sucking water into the ductwork, killed the ram-air-but leaving the hood ready for it as it was already tooled for production. How they got by with the TPI is open for argument if that was their reasoning.
