285/40/17 fit on 17" x 9.0"?
I have 17" x 9" ZR1/Camaro SS wheels I am planning on putting on my 1993 Corvette. In the front I have 275/40/17 tires. The manufacture of the BFG Comp T/A KDW says 9.5" is the minimum width for the 285/40/17. Anyone mount 285 tires on 9" wheel? Anyone have a picture so I can see how much angle there is in the tire sidewall?

All I know is that 285's look a tad 'bulgy' on a 9.5" wheel....so I wouldn't do it on a 9". I'm sure it would fit, but probably wouldn't look right. Just stick with 275's.

I have some 285's kdw's and they fit fine on a 9 1/2.
I believe that is the min. recomended rim width, if track use I would probably do it. Currently I have a set of 325x45x17(28x10x17) drag radials's on a set of 9 1/2's.

it fits, but a 275 is definitely optimal for a nine inch wide wheel.
are you racing or just DD/pleasure driving the car? if you aren't racing then I'd go ahead and do it.

I only use the car for weekend driving. I do not plan on racing because I really don't have the time. However, I do drive very aggressively especially in the corners. This is one of the reasons I wanted a 285 in the back and the 275 in the front. This way there is a little bit more of understeer, which is easier to manage in street driving in my opinion. As a result, if the 285 would cause squirely behavior from the sidewall angle, I would stick with the 275.

If it was a tire that runs small for its size (like a Firestone Wide Oval or a Sumitomo) I'd say you'd be fine. BFGs, however, are fairly wide for their size so I'd say it would be pushing it.

Because of the buldge, you're not going to get the total 285 on the ground. I would suggest going with the 275's. I currenly have 285's on my 9.5" wheels and they look beefy. IMHO - 9.0"s would look a little funny.
