Default Driving Lamp Update

Just got my Feb '09 issue of Corvette Fever magazine.
A reader asked the magazine's C4 expert (Jody Gregg) about an article from the "101 Projects for your Corvette" book.
The article explains that you can make your C4's driving lights much brighter by replacing the bulbs with the stronger 885 50-watt bulbs and upgrading the fuse to one that will not blow as easily.
Gregg stated that the "101 Projects" article only covers the 84 to 90 Corvettes.
The reader has a 96 and wanted to make his driving lights brighter also.
Gregg said that the proper bulb for the 91 to 96 Corvettes would be the 9006 low beam halogen lamp (with the blackened top). He also explained that the fuse should not have to be upgraded. He did warn to use great caution as this bulb will produce more heat in an enclosed space and could discolor or even melt the light assembly.
I did the upgrade on a previously owned 87 and it worked great. I never got around to upgrading my LT4's lights before I sold it though.
Anyone ever used the 9006 bulb on their later C4? Any problems if you did so?

hmm, I don't know about that. I put HIDs in my fog-lights, and used the 880-type bulbs. fit perfectly, work perfectly. So unless the 9006 bulb is the same size as the 880 (which I doubt), I don't think that's right.

Then again, I've been wrong before. Just wanted to share personal experience.
