Question for the racers...
We had a thread discussing the need for the zinc on larger cam flat tappet engines a while back. I was running rotella t 15-40 on my 454 and now I am going to try the valvoline 20-50 racing oil. I just adjusted my lifters again and have accepted the fact that the ebay rebuild that I bought is just a loose engine (oil pressure drops when warm and it is a bit noisy) hence the 20-50.
My question is:
The rotella smells burnt. I have the temp under control now but do any of you know of a synthetic that will give me what I need for the comp Xtreme 268H grind? I was thinking that the syn will not break down as easily.
I know another oil thread but this is an uncommon situation
Your thoughts?

I think the Mobil 1 15w-50w has what we need. Its what I run in my 92.
IIRC there was a thread in the Autocross section about the Mobil 1 formulations.

Gibbs has a syn oil that will fit the bill for you.

Mobil One drastically reduced the amount of Zinc in it's oils nearly 8yrs ago. They did have a good syn oil up till then.... It had a "Red Cap". The newer oil with the gold or silver cap is not recommended for a flat tappet camshaft.
