Default Heated O2 Sensor...

Guys,
I recently installed a heated O2 sensor in my new exhaust after the headers. Hooked all the wires up and get no codes, yet when I scan the engine the O2 sensor only shows reading when engine is revved? This is kinda strange, before with the stock engine and O2 sensor it would drift from low voltage to high at idle? Is this normal for the heated O2 sensor or is some thing messed up. Many things were just changed on the engine. See sig. Thanks all.

The O2 sensor tends to cool off along with the cat at idle but a heated sensor should stay operational, that's the purpose of heating it.

Verify that it is indeed being heated. If so it may be defective. Also, where did you install it? It should be as close to the collector as possible, if not in the collector.

I agree :yesnod: :yesnod:
Install that sensor in the collector. It will work alot better and last A LOT longer there. The hot gasses will keep it in the temp operating band that it was suppose to be in. With all of your other mods that you have done to cool the engine, your exhaust gas temp is probably a good bit lower than a stock engine. especially when using headers.

Put the old sensor in the location that you have the new one in now and I'de bet you get close to the same readings.

Guys,
The O2 sensor is located in the exhaust pipe ~1ft behind the collector. I thought that was the purpose of the heated o2 sensor. Why is it heated then. I had to fight with the guy who installed the o2 sensor becuase he wanted to eliminate it all together and I said no way! He said just buy a sensor delete from summit and be done with it. I protested and said who is paying who to do the work! Just do it the way I want it. Then I was half afraid to leave the car there. He did a terrific job. I hate to have to take it back to him and tell him to move it up. How hot does the heated sensor get? Thanks guys I need more advice.

The O2 sensor has to get over 300 deg C to operate properly. I think the heater is just a supplement to exhaust gasses.

Check the voltage/current into the heater with a DMM to assure that it is indeed being heated. If so you may have to move it up, in which case you may want to find another shop to move it.
