That's true - there's no reason to mess with success.
On the other hand, the valve springs in a '96 are around 6 years old now and won't hold their strength forever. Fresh springs on a performance engine seem like a prudent maintenance item to me. Since you need to pull the rockers anyway, putting on 1.6's shouldn't qualify as 'major surgery'.
