That's true - there's no reason to mess with success.
On the other hand, the valve springs in a '96 are around 6 years old now and won't hold their strength forever. Fresh springs on a performance engine seem like a prudent maintenance item to me. Since you need to pull the rockers anyway, putting on 1.6's shouldn't qualify as 'major surgery'.

My car ran just as fast as 93,000 as it ever did. I though I'd would have loss some power also but I didn't.
