Yes, they really should only be installed by a Chrysler Certified technician, (hard times you understand, they really need the work).

Nothing special, just follow the FSM proceedures and have required special tools to spread the case and set up the bearings.

The Viper ring gear is larger than the stock unit, and some rear end housings will need to be clearanced to accomodate the larger gear.

On your 96 you can reflash the PCM to correct the speedo.

Why yes, you can use a programmer for that. I happen to have a Hypertech programmer that would be perfect for recalibrating the speedo. You can also change the fan temps! Woo hoo.....Let me know if you're interested.

I got my speedo gears from exotic muscle. The drive shaft has to be removed to change one of the speedo gears. But if you remove the bolt that holds the sensor to the tranny and then pull the sensor off, you can see both gears. Actually, the one gear comes off with the sensor. The thing you have to watch for is the clip that holds the gear in place on the shaft. The clip holds the gear, but the gear holds the clip. So when you slide the gear over the clip, it will want to fall out of place. If it falls inside the tranny, youll have to remove the tail end of it. Its tricky, but reading the factory service manual will give you a better idea of what you have to do. I was able to hold the clip in place and slide the new gear on the shaft and over the clip. My first time doing it and it took about 30 mins. Most of that was tryin to get the gear to slide over the clip, but eventually i got it.
