I've read it to be around 155 mph. To be honest, I have never been that fast. The tops in my Vette was around 120 mph. It was still accellerating, but not very fast.

Mine (in poor tuning and as stock as they come) quit pulling at 130. Now I expect ~160

Well, the bottom line to top speed would be gearing. Your top end will be faster with 2.59's then with 3.73's based on a bone stock L98. Probably 145-155 or so. Only one way to find out...

On the race track of course!

Make that 160+ if it is a high speed chase with about 4 troopers behind you. :D

I saw that on Scariest Police Chases once... Guy must have had some
cobbles to do that...

I've had my 85 to 140 mph and it was still climbing sloooooowly but I ran out of road plus the wife wasn't to happy about it. pick a long straight road and let'er rip.....thats what vets are about.

Think I saw this too. Did it end with a black vette sliding sideways into the back of a semi? Man, I almost cried.

Topspeed is directly proportional to the amount of nuts a driver posesses + mods.

I've had mine to 145 a couple of times, but ran out of "safe" road if there is such a thing at that speed. I have a 2.59 rear. Lemme tell you, stock brakes are not very responsive above about 85 mph. So if you try it out, make sure you've got plently of open road. It's not you that is the danger, but others, nobody expects you to be closing in on them that fast ...

When I first got my 91 I had it up to around 140 pretty much on a regular basis. If I remember correctly, the engine speed was around 4200rpm with 3.07s, and it was still pulling pretty good. The fastest I had it up to back then with just mufflers, K&N, and AFPR, was 152, and that was still pulling too. I just remember it being too floaty at those speeds with the stock height FE1 suspension, and shi*ty Goodyear Gatorbacks.

0-120 is very easy for an L98.

But after that , it is a slow climb.

I have gotton it up to 142 mph, you need lots of room to keep on going.

:yesnod:

Takes me about 2.5 miles to get up to 150.

I had mine up to 156 bone stock 6-speed ,loaded with 200lbs of luggage and it was still accelerating when i let off the gas. P.S. I would not try this without alot of experience. My highest speed 1.5hours at 176mph(in a Porsche in Germany)...

Checking in with the Crossfire here.

Well I see a lot of folks haven't had their L-98 up any faster than I've had my old L-83 crossfire or whatever "L" it is.
It runs up to 120 quite easily and there IS more. Don't know how MUCH more. I just don't think my pocketbook can stand more than 120 if I get caught. Probably can't even stand 120.
My 91' L-98 has seen 120 quite a few times and, again, there's more but I feel really lucky with my forrays up to those speeds and back to 75-80 without getting pegged by the GSP.
Closing rate on other vehicles also makes me a little "ner-vi-us", it would only take one driver switching lanes in front of you to ruin your whole day, and your whole Corvette.
I trust ME and I trust my Vette but NOT those other drivers.
I think about these things now at 52.

It ain't a matter of cahonas for a lot of us old hell raisers, it's just being older and wiser that puts the top speed limit on our Vettes.

Who knows what day I WILL FEEL 25 again and blitz up to 140 or whatever.
At least the option is there with the Vette.

"Still gottem. just try to keep'em outta trouble."

Oh and kids, don't try this without a V1 . . . .or a spotter.

I'd say it's good for at least 150 but not much more if its stock. I've seen a tick over 140 in mine on occasion. Mine pulls really well all the way to 140ish. My 99 6 speed trans am with only a catback exhaust pulled strong all the way to 162 when the fuel shut off

my 89 saw 156 before I blew my load all over the place, at that speed poopie appears in front of you, it took forever to get from 145 to 156, and only the slightest bump will put you squirrely! I keep her about 120 when I am looking for the police...

That's with 2.59's as well.

This is sad to hear...I just purchased a 86 Vette with auto and 3.07 gears...and to think it will have a hard time getting to 150mph...whats the problem...is it the heads, cam, or fuel system??? The 69 Vette I had yrs ago would do 130+ in third gear and peg 160+ in fourth gear in a hurry.....wish I still had that car....but then again it only got about 10mpg when taking it easy...lol....but then again it's nice to get 25+mpg with the 86 on the highway

It should be able to get to 150mph, not that I have ever tried (too fast for public road IMO). Maybe your engine isn't in proper tune.

The TPI intake was designed for a 305ci engine because Chevy thought a 305 was going to go into the C4. When the 350ci was finalized to go into the C4 it was too late to redesign the intake. She just can't breath! :)
