Default 1985 Corvette Recall

My drivers side seat belts started locking up or jamming when it is retracted and I cannot get it out to use the seat belt. So, I did some digging around the internet and found out that there is a recall for the seat belt anchorage. Since it was recalled 09/04/1991, I was wondering if it was still possible if I can go to a GM dealership and have them replace it since it is a safety issue?

Recall ID: 91V143000

Thanks for your response

I tried with my 85 and Cauley chevrolet did everything they could to help until GM said there is no recall. Cauley had to give me the GM number because the dealers computers only go back 10 years. Now the dealer knows about the recall the problem is getting GM to do it and they are extremely rude on the phone so prepare yourself for that.

You may or may not have any luck at your local dealer.
Some members have reported that yes, they were able to get the recall work performed.

But the recall was so long ago, it seems most dealers don't have any information in their computers.

Now with all that being said, the bottom line is the parts have long since been out of production. And GM is not going to gear up and produce them either.

You might get lucky and find a dealer that might have some NOS parts on hand.
But even then, they might not have the color you need and you will have to settle for whatever they might be able to find.

Take the seatbelts out, they are for women and children.

Worst case...you can pick up a used set and just swap them out....check the CF's F/S section or flEaBAY. People on the roads these days are so buckle up or get a 'vette with air bags.

A recall is a recall and until it's fixed, they are on the hook. If the dealer refuses to help, tell them you want that in writing! It's called evidence!
In my case, my dealer was very cooperative and looked up and gave me the evidence that the recall had been done on my 87 before I owned it. The other posts are correct though that you basically don't get a color choice. It's whatever they can get. The used idea I don't think is a great one as I don't know how you would know if you were getting good ones or bad ones. I suppose there is a party number distinction but I don't know what it is. Perhaps someone else does. BTW, I grew up right around the corner from you in LG Pk.

When I got mine....I thought it odd that someone replaced the Driver side with a passenger side....

After reading on here for the last three years that they aren't available anymore.....I understand why.

Is it weird having the button on the wrong side??? Just a bit at first, but now I don't even think about it and I un-clip the belt without thinking about it.

I took the vette to Jack Phelan Chevrolet today and they told me to come back tomorrow to get it done. But I explained them the situation where it was a recall from '91 for the seat belt anchorage, the guy said they can do it no problem

Now let's see if he's a man of his word when I take it in again tomorrow

I was actually considering that! Until I got a ticket for not wearing a seat belt on the very first time I took the car out of the garage for the season less than 3 blocks from my house
