We have an 85 coupe with the 4+3 transmission. When I put the car in reverse tonight ALL 4 of the back lights (one on either side of license as well as the back up cornering lights on the sides) did not come on. The fuse is for the back up and turn lights. The turn signals DO work, so I'm assuming the fuse is OK. I have the Hayne's repair manual that shows a switch when that is closed with gear selector in reverse. is there any information on where this switch might be located and what is the removal and replacement.
^What he said. It's not too bad to replace, just be patient with it as it might be in there pretty tight with age. Don't crank it down like a gorilla when putting the new one in either, that's just an alumnum case for the tranny. Maybe you'll get lucky and just find out your plug is disconnected.
Rodj and Scorp 508, thanks for the picture and the info. Checked it all out with my son last night and the switch is gone. Will be replacing next week.
Also, FYI, your rear side cornering lights will not illuminate if one or both of your license plate marker light bulbs are burned out. They're wired on the same circuit.

Not true because the license plate lamps and the side markers are in parallel, so if either lamp burns out the opposite lamp stays on.
