Extrude Hone
Ok I still trying to figure out a way to get around Calif somg laws ya so much fun
The main problem is with my 1986 vett is the intake manifold I was thinking getting it Extrude Hone so it flow more CFM's and still have the stock look so it will still pass smog.
I need your input do you think this will work to get more flow so i can use better heads and still pass smog.

I had my intake and SuperRam runners Extrude Honed years ago. Very happy with the result.

Though extrude hone of the base would help, you would need LT runners, like the AS&Ms, to really help flow.
As an altenative to the "stock look", I've done the siamese intake base:
-cut a hole 2" deep x 1" high into the adjacent base runners
-cut about 1/4" deep x 1" high into the lower runner base to blend with the base openings
-smooth and stream-line the openings in base & runners
-open up the lower funner gaskets to match the new openings
This mod will increase breathing at top RPM while not taking away an appreciable amount on the low end:
Before: 185chp @5,600rpm
After: 215chp @5,600rpm
BTW, with this mod, 1.6:1 RRs, 160deg T-stat, open air cleaner lid, hi-flow cat, cut-back spark plugs she easily passed the OH E-Check dyno sniffer.

I think I going to go with getting the OEM stuff honed out
It seems like the SR is more for high rever I not looking for that.
I looking for a motor that turn 5000 to 5200 RPM's.
Its looking like Hone the intake and runners a a set of Trick flow heards will get the motor what I want it to do for now

The runners are thin like paper. The SR doesn't have to be a high RPM intake.

The SuperRam is known for it's broad, flat torque curve; it's not meant to be a high rpm intake setup.

You can port the base plenty, sniffer cant pick that up. We actually have lenient sniffer standards out here. If your car is in good tune and you pass the visual you have no problem.
If it was me just porting the heads, intake aftermarket runners and a small cam/tune would make for a fun street legal car.
Did a 305 to 350 conversion on a freinds IROC last year. Edelbrock heads that got some porting, a Lunati 236Voodoo cam, ported TPI system nd shorty headers, car runs syper strong. Even with a rich mail order tune it easily passes Ca smog.
If it was me just porting the heads, intake aftermarket runners and a small cam/tune would make for a fun street legal car.

True..wont be a screamer but should give plenty of noticable fun on the street without spending a bunch if you can do your own work.

Marvin, extrude honing is gonna cost you $800 plus shipping both ways. You can do a decent SR for that money & have a unit that will out perform the stock extrude honed intake hands down. Then you can sell the TPI stuff & get a few bucks back.......I think you'd be way ahead of the game going that route.
Another thing.........cubic inches don't affect smog compliance, so perhaps think 383 because that would be like a 350 on steroids (all other parts being equal). Add a decent set of heads (nothing too expensive), a 219 cam, and you'd have a car in California that would be perfectly legal and kick some butt. I applaud you for working towards the best of both worlds; performance and legality
