I've got an 87 and am wanting to get some drag slicks and wheels. Will I have any problems with 15x8 weld drag lites with 3.5" backspacing and 28x10.5x15 MT's? Is there a chart or some info somewhere with the sizes I'm limited to? Thanks.

I know there are a few C4 guys that run 28's. Some of them are over inthe drag race section. I have 27's. It gives me great MPH but does not ET / 60 ft. very well as you might surmise.

Not sure on the backspace as my year C4 is different than the earlier models. The rims are Weld pro-stars 15x10's.

These pigs are heavy in the front the 3.5 will not be enough on the front,you need 4.5 at 26 in max or you can't turn the car.
The rear need to be a 10 in rim with a 7 inch back spacing 28 and if you have the money 29 in will fit.You will have to grind the fins, rear brakes only.

Thanks redc4corvette. What can I get away without having to grind the rear brake caliper? 11" - 12" rim?

I don't think it has to do with the width...it's the diameter.

The cars came with either 16" or 17" rims from the factory. A 15" rim won't (quite) clear the rear calipers. Some minor grinding and they'll clear them.

Okay... got it. So just going down to any 15" will give me clearance issues with the brake calipers.

How does a radial such as the BF Goodrich comp T/A's compare to a true drag slick? My car isn't heavily modded but it breaks loose very easily off the line with the Falken's that I currently have on it. Maybe I can get away with just getting some radials instead of true slicks? Sorry for all of the questions, I'm learning a lot from you guys and appreciate all of the advice.

The easiest solution for you is to grab some 16 inch wheels from a 97+ Camaro or Firebird. They will bolt on your car without an issue and can be found for as little as $25 a piece on the Internet.

M/T makes a 26.5 x 10.5 x 16 that fits these wheels. The set up works very well.

A drag radial would probably work for you as well. However, most of the drag radials need to be warm to work well. This is no problem at the drag strip, but for the impromptu stop light encounter they might not work as well.

I am running 17" rims and M/T drag radials and they work very well 275/40/17, no spinning at all with a low 11 second car.

Hey neat, will the M/T 26.5 x 10.5 x 16 fit on stock C4 wheels? The Camaro/Firebird wheels are 16X8 while the stock C4 is 16X8.5. Not sure if the extra 0.5 will make a difference. Thanks

The P255/50R16 MT ET Street tire is equivalent to a 26 X 10.50R16 and is recommended for a 7 - 9"' rim

I would run MT 315x17x35 drag radials with the 17 in wagon wheel they are cheap wheels and will serve you well on the street.The MT street slick sucks and I could get the DR to hook better the drag slick.

To me, that would depend on the gear being used or if the OP is intending a change. I like the 28 works and well when using a 4.10 or 4.30 ratio. I used a typical calculator to get a starting point based on circumference v.s. gear, v.s. rpm, v.s. 1320 ft. etc.
Isn't that because of the weld 2 piece wheel having a weld that runs into caliper? How much grinding was needed for them to fit?
To the OP, there are quite a few really nice rims out there, Bogarts, Billet spec. etc. however most use the weld because they are a good rim for the money....don't forget to put in good 3" studs.

Hands down best DR on the market IMO

I've been running the 275 on my car (track days) for over 4 years and have been verrrrrrry happy with them. They do make larger sizes, but I believe the tread pattern is slightly different (I think they're the same compound though).

I have 295x45x17 which was a 27.7 (28) x10" tire, they have since changed the 295 size slightly. Hoosier also had some good tires.
