actually people running higher hp motor opt for the iron truck block cause they can handle more power.. but again.. seeing as how you know nothing about the gen 3 small block jump in a lake. btw if you want a 4 bolt main for an l98 you would have to use a truck block. there is nothing dimensionally different about the truck bolt compared to any other car block.

The only thing that makes it a truck block is that its made of iron.....for durability....and that it was given more power to push a caddy truck so that they can lord it over us Chevy fans that they have more power. Why else would you spend almost $20,000 more than you have to unless you have money to burn, and if you have the money to burn, wouldn't you like more power?
Viscious cycle.
They forget how much more weight they are carrying because of all the accessories that the General packs into those trucks.........forget good gas mileage......

There are lots and lots of f-body guys with iron 408 strokers out there, it is actually a somewhat popular build.

I just want to make my car fast, like 320ish hp. something with some good top end. I know everybodys gonna say ls1 but i dont want to spend that much money. dont think i can get that kinda power outta my l98. just not sure what to do with my 85. everybody around where im from is getting lq4s and lq9s out of the local junk yards, and putting them in notchback stangs. Just getting kind of motivated to do something with it. all of the imput was great thankyou everybody that replied

I think it sounds like a good plan. Truck engines are cheap, and you can't go wrong with an LSx based option. I also read that if you use these iron blocks, you don't have to change the suspension in the front very much. The Y- and F-body LS engines are lighter than the stock C4 one so what you end up having to do is modify the suspension in the front end to counter for the less weight. The truck engine should be somewhere around the same. If you're willing to do the work, go ahead. I did some research and some of the threads I found helpful were:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...ogress-13.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...ith-4l60e.html

http://mcspeed.homestead.com/LSXC4.html

Now, most of these people were putting "car" LSx engines in their car but I believe (somebody may want to correct me) that these truck engines have the same motor mount patterns as their passenger car counterparts. These links should give you a good starting point.

However, expect to spend something like 8,000 to 10,000 on doing the conversion. It's extremely expensive, hard to do, time consuming but the cool factor is way up there.

I thought long and hard in regards to doing an LSx swap, and when I added it all up, it didnt make sense. I had a 421 sbc built instead.

That's my opinion.

you would have to have the intake mounting bolts converted and the distributer hole fabbed up but there are places that sell them in bolt on form. some headers a mild cam and that intake would easily set you over 320 crank hp.

very interesting. i just want to be able to run with an lt1 , or give my friends ls1 a good run. how much lift should the cam have for being mild. and a daily driver. I do know where theres a an engine at with a lingenfilter intake and runner set up, with long tubes on it, but it caught on fire, looks like it just burnt the wires and some small plastic pieces. for 600$ would that be worth it just for the headers?

u need to do some research, but its ok. you sound like i did about 6 yrs ago when i joined. use the search engine above, and read, read, read!

the LTx manifold is not what you want to do imo. guys like beachbum, and tpi421vette really know there stuff, but they also might not have time to post, as it's kinda "been there, dont that", thousand times over.

fyi. 320 hp prob wont keep up to your friends LSx. if u want the car to be "fast", u need to build a stroker motor, or even a built 355.

I'm not the one that said I got beat by a car and a half by an f-body with bolt ons.

if you had any knowledge of what an ls1 with headers/exhaust/tune was able to run in the 1/4 mile i might take that as a good comeback.. but seeing as how you are ignorant to any and all vehicles equipped with a gen 3 small block i will just sit back and laugh at your stupidity.

I am not trying to start an argument so take this post for what it is, information. The stock LS engines make amazing power even in stock form. A 6 liter truck engine with just tuning will put out more power then a LT1 Corvette engine. I do EFI tuning for West Bend Dyno and the 6 liter engines will put out 320 plus HP to the wheels, all stock besides a tune. The LT1 vettes will not do that. Through a cam, headers, intake, at that same engine and it will put 450 plus HP to the ground. It is shockingly easy to make big power with an LS engine.

You said 12.5 sec.for the f-body. You said your car has a lt4 with a cam.You should be able to run 12.9.So how does the f-body beat you by a car,car and a half.I can see if it beat you by a 1/2 a car.
