TPI aftermarket runners

I am going aftermarket long tube myself on my 355. If you shop around, you can get these pieces at a reasonable price. I recently picked up a ported Edelbrock Hi-Flo for 275.00 buy it now on Ebay. I am currently shopping for some SLP's that I will max port (siamese) myself. My manifold has been ported to 1.8 inches and looks great, and it was freshly powdercoated to boot. My plenum has already been ported. You can get SLP runners for 280.00 new, I may or may not be able to find these for less used in the next few months. I have been eyeballing the Edelbrock E-street heads in 185 cc, they are running about 850.00 a set. I am also sticking to a flat tappet cam in the .520 lift total with 1.6 full roller rockers, a Lunati 102 or a Comp XFI. Stock throttle body and 24 pound Bosch III's. A custom chip. My engine also has TRW flat top forged pistons, and will be about 10.25 to 1 compression. My expectations are modest and my budget limited. Should be a fun car with the 4+3 and the 3.07 gears. Thirdgen has great info on these combos.

Sorry guys, looks like you have to buy a World Products designed gen 1 block to work with LS heads. Apparently the water jackets wont line up.
I did talk tonight with a friend who works at Mercury Marine, who told me AFR has a new set of LS style heads to fit the older blocks. I haven't checked into theirs yet.
If you want more info, check out the February 2009 edition of Hot Rod Mag.
I found the article here.

tell you what.....I'll give you a ride in my 85 w/the miniram set up with the 3.73 gears I am running out back with a six speed tranny......this fu_ _ _ _ hits 100mph very quick......"I'll take my loss of torque" hands down over any other intake...I have no problem with LS1's......runs neck and neck with my neighbor's C5 Commerative 04 Z06 LS6 and he is running an after market BB exhaust on it.....with that Edelbrock hi-flow intake I originally had he was beating my A_ _ by the 1/8 mile....now I have about 1/2 car on him going through the traps in the 1/4 with the miniram.......been there and done that with the intakes.....these 350+'s make enough low end grunt w/gears...you don't need to choke them at higher RPM levels to gain some modest torque down low....

Got a few pages. It's been an evolving project over the past 25 years. I bought my 84 new and have had a lot of fun with it over the years. From the radiator to the fuel cell in back, most of the car is no longer stock. I am using a World Products 406 block with JE pistones with 12.4 compression, Cola crank, Crane 230/240 cam and a extrude honed SuperRam manifold with 36lb injectors. Hooker headers, Meziere water pump and a Ron Davis radiator. I use an obsolete Accel gen 6 DFI for engine management. The tranny is a built 4L60E with a TCI controller and a Precision Industries 5 clutch lockup converter which I lock up after the 1-2 shift. The rearend is a Strange 12 bolt with 4.33 gears with coilovers and a custom fabricated 3 link using a torque beam going to a tranny mount integrated with the rollbar. As Jim McComb will attest to, this car is out almost every Wednesday night at Infineon and makes around 200 passes a year. Hope this helps. Willie

Ever added up the number of man hours you got in that car?

I put ported edelbrok runners, ported plenum and ported base on mine. no numbers yet, but you can tell it is pulling in a lot more air, the upper end has opened up dramatically. It pulls a lot harder around 3000 and up. there has been a pretty significant drop off the line though, could just be from the timing not being set just right yet.

Changing the intake and runners doesnt gain any hp it FREES UP
the HP.
So if you leave the cam stock, chip stock you may gain more HP @ a higher RPM but loose some TQ.
If your gears are stock you could be slowing down your car in 1/4 times and 0-60times
To really see the intake and runner gains you should change heads and cam and go with a good gear 3.43 at least.
just my IMO

Yah. Other than is 406 ci engine that has 12.5:1 compression with forged internals , 4 link, coil over, solid axle conversion, skinny's up front and 12" wide slicks in the rear, 4:30 gears, and light weighted everything is stock.LOL
But seriously the runners will help for sure. That intake is choked.
