1984 'vette wont start.
recently my neighbor bought a 1984 corvette. its in decent shape, especially for what he bought it for. anyway, when he bought it, the car ran perfect (or so he told me). well as soon as he parked it in his garage, he took the dash apart to take a rats nest out of it. when he put it back together it wouldnt start. it turns over like a champ but there is no fuel getting through the injectors. the security light is on but i do not think this is the problem anymore. any help is very much appreciated.

Engines require spark and spark at the right time, fuel and air and in the correct ratio and cylinder compression in order to start and run. You see no injector spray and do not hear the fuel pump running. Is there fuel pressure? If not find out why and correct the cause. Is the fuel pump getting 12v? If not trace power from the battery through the fuel pump relay and to the fule pump motor and find out where 12v stops.

you need to check spark, if no spark and no injector pulse look at the pickup in the distributor.
if spark and no fuel from the injectors, check injector pulse.
if no pulse make sure the brain box has hot's and ground.
if the injectors have pulse check fuel pressure, if no pressure..
you can hotwire the pump or find the cause. these cars should run the pump for a bit then shut it off if there is no oil pressure.
check the fuel pump fuse for juice
also wiggle all the wire harness connectors..
also, I have seen the bladders clog the pumps up, and I THINK the newer alcohol fuels may hurt the bladders, but this is just speculation....
BTW, IF by chance you find that the wire harness is destroyed from the rats I have a brain and harness that has about 1 foot of wire with each and every wire labeled...

it will run for a few seconds when gas is poured into the throttle bodies. so im pretty sure ignition is out of the question. im pretty sure the rats must not have got anything major because it was running fine when he pulled the nest out. it only quit workin after he pulled the radio, cluster and all that junk out (not the speedo or tach). how do i check fuel injector pulse and where is the fuel pump relay and how do i check it?

Burning Brakes
The fuel pump relay is located on the firewall in the engine compartment, I believe it is to left of the brake booster, bye the wiper motor, There are 2 relays there one in front of the other, Cant recall if it is the front or back one, but it is one of them two...

If there is a harness plug for the injector/s, get a Noid light from a parts store to check if the injectors are being pulsed. You can also make your own test light from an LED and a series 680 ohm resistor. Polarity must be correct to the plug for the light to work.

i fixed it today! i just happened to be lookin at the fusebox when i noticed somethin funny. there was a 25a fuse in the ecm circuit! apparently it wont run unless it has a 3a fuse in it. runs good now
