Vortech Superchargers
A local vetter at my area shows sometimes brings his 1987 roadster with a Vortech supercharger. In talking with him, I got the impression it was a kit he bought and installed and that was that. I just went looking for one however and it seems there is no such thing. 92 and up is all they offer so I am wondering if anyone else has one in an 85-91 and if so, how it was converted over? I seem to remember him saying he had it installed somewhere in Connecticut but that is a bit too big to start calling shops. Nevertheless, his was a perfect fit and ran like a monster so I would like to get one.
The only other thing I remember was that he said $3000.00 installed was the cost. Anyone got anything to add? All info will be helpful...
THX
P.S. I have an 89 6-Speed...

Re: Vortech Superchargers (C4RAG)
About how much HP and torque does a supercharger add to a stock LT1? Would it bring it up to 400hp and over 400 lb ft of torque? And what other things are necessary to do to optimize the engine for the blower, not counting changing out the heads, cam, etc?

Crushers car dynoed at 362hp and 450 lbs/ft at the rear wheels, don't remember if he had a Vortech or Paxton though.

Re: Vortech Superchargers (95_C4_convertible)
I had a LT1 Camaro with a Vortech. I was running 10lbs of boost with the Carroll Superfueler and the Carroll Water Injection. The nozzle on the water injection clogged and the motor went boom! The ring lands on the pistons of the LT1 motors are very weak and you can run into problems unless you keep it at 6lbs of boost or less. At 10lbs of boost and with a good set of headers and exhaust the car made 395 rwhp, without being tuned. It easily had another 20 hp left in it. On street tires on the middle of the summer the car ran 12.70's at 113mph (with a 2.20 60'). Hope this information helps.

If you do some searching on back topics for supercharging, you'll see a lot of people say that a stock LT-1 doesn't last long under a SC and to plan a rebuild in the near future.

Re: Vortech Superchargers (Springer's 95)
They have high compression cast pistons.
If you put in lower compression forged units it should last.
An intercooler would also help out,
both in endurance and power.

Mines been on for two years and no problems at all. Check out the Vortech web site for answers to your questions.

Re: Vortech Superchargers (Crusher137)
which is cool that yours hasn't had any problems but for the rest of us with corvettes as our daily drivers reliability is a huge problem. I've seen enough post telling that theirs blew up and this is on a stock engine. One of you already stated that if you change your pistons to a lower compression you'd be cool and this is completely true. Running any boost on a car with 10.5 to 1 compression ratio is insane if you plan on leaving it this way and want it to last. But on the other hand it's a whole lot of fun and nothing can come close to the money other than Nitrous and that's a whole other discussion.

Re: Vortech Superchargers (XtremeVette420)
I've not heard of any engine disengrations with running the stock Vortech Set Up for these cars. (5-6 lbs of boost). I have heard of Paxton and Procharger problems. Remember, the Vortech gets its oil from the crankcase which means that is constently being filtered and cooled. i think that helps alot.
Springer...I did that search and couldn't find anything like you said about stock LT1's not lasting long with an SC.
Xtreme...I couldn't find any of the post that say that their stock LT1 blew up with a supercharger, could you direct me to a few...i would be interested in reading them..

My buddy has a Vortech on his 99, he drives it daily and he drives it hard. He's had on there for almost three years. The biggest problem he has is the clutch and rear tires.

lol, smartazz...no I can't b/c it just so happens those post are really, really old and I'm not about to go through the past couple of months to find em. So I'll let you win this one, but any time you put that extra stress on a stock engine you automatically reduce it's life and there is no one that can dispute that.

Re: Vortech Superchargers (XtremeVette420)
I have a few friends with vortechs on em. They have been running for a few years now. they run with boost levels that came with the kit. (Mustang/Camaro) haven't had any internal problems. A few belts shredded on one guy. I personally like cubes but I'm thinking about building another blower engine. Or maybe a Nitrous BOMB! :D

Re: Vortech Superchargers (Crusher137)
I would concur, and not run a S/C without a solid bottom end. My C4 went boom without warning at the track. Was not a pretty sight
I did put the vortech ontop the stageII heads.
