Default Coilovers Installation (Rears).

Updated 10-20-2017

Posted the same photos because Photobucket and the can go a **** themselves.

The procedure was removed in 2011 and I'm not going to write a 1,000-word removal & installation instructions, sorry.

Here are the photos, you'll need tools of all types, and this is not a beginners' task.

Van Steel sells an updated shock bracket. The newer kits he sells come with it. The OEM bracket will not work.

using the OEM bracket allows the coilover to rub the half-shafts.

Nice! Looks great!

How did you get the tire carrier off? I wanted to take it off one day to clean/polish the aluminum back there but I couldnt get the bolts off the black frame piece that holds the L-shaped bolt/nail shaped things that the tire carrier slides on. Is there another way?

How does it feel compared to the spring?

Awesome thanks for the write up. If I keep this car, I am doing coil overs too.

Using a flat screwdriver I bent the carrier's aluminum bracket.

The spare cant be used anyway it is 14 years old, cant get a new one and I got C5 brakes in the front.

Gotcha! I was thinking of doing that but figured I would end up breaking the thing... I checked my spare and it was really low (20psi) so I filled it up to 60psi and have to check it soon...
Thanks!

PLRX- always entertained by your threads! Thurough write up, awesome pictures, very informative!

So asdogfish246 asked- how does it feel?

I noticed that you went with the dual adjustable dampers.

please tell us what the reasons are that you went with Van Steel over the other vendors?

I haven't driven the Vette yet and the front is not done yet.

Brian suggested Van Steel and the modifications are minors.

I'm assuming ride height is adjustable based on the threads on the shock base(?)

Great work, as usual!

I thought about photochopping but left it alone. On our last run I was leading and two deers came out of no-where, I took immediate action and ended up in a ditch. The pipes bent a bit and misaligned the right exhaust pipe.

It didn't look right without bushings, I called Van Steel on Friday and they confirmed it goes the way it is in the picture. Yes, the ride height it's adjustable.

What is it about the Van Steel rear coilovers that allow installation without modification? Is it the Hard Bar top pin mounts?

Extremely clean C4, very well done! The lower rear mounts as well are Hardbar designs, licensed by VanSteel. I really wish I had these when I had my '89. Some of these parts, like the upper mounts are exactly the same as we supply on $6000 triple adjustable Penske coil overs for C6Z's and ZR-1's.

Who sells the lower besides Van Steel?

I gave up on waiting on the lowers, evidently they are available now.

I'm not 100% but I believe it's the use of a smaller diameter shock which allows for narrower springs vs the Bilstiens.
