I know that Tires have been covered on the forum before but unable to find a response on my particular question.
I am replacing tires on all 4 corners of my 96. I have been trying to find the best performing yet quietest Tire available without spending +$250 per
i have narrowed my search down to the following
Kumho Ecsta SPT
Mich. Pilot Sport
Nitto Invo
Sumitomos
of the 4 i think the kuhmos are the best price however i am told that Kuhmos are noisy
Anybody have knowledge of these tires that can tell me what the quietest are?
also if you know a place i can get a good deal on them that would be helpful
somebody told me to call a forum guy named devon???
275-40-17 are factory on all 4 corners on a '96 with Z51 package. I only stepted up one size on the rear to the 285's . The 285-40-17 came stock on '96 verts CE so I figured it would be ok.
Don't know if you've already decided or not, but as a tire technician, I would reccommend Nitto's. From a runout perspective, they are the best brand I have had experience with,...INCLUDING MICHILENS. 9 out of 10 times I have mounted a set of 4 tires, the runout was perfect...even on their mud terrains. I mounted a set of 40x12.50x15's the other day and they were PERFECT. Took almost no weight also. Their passenger car tires and performance tires are just as high quality or better. I've never seen a set of performance tires from them with any noticable runout at all. I also have yet to see a separated tire from them. Performance is also on par with brands of equal quality and price.
Runout is the amount of movent in the tire in relation to the rim. Lets say you have a perfect, brand new rim and mount a brand new tire on it. When you go to balance it, you want to look at the movement of the tread surface of the tire. The movement you see is the runout. It can be either side to side movement or vertical movement, or a combination of the two. Excessive runout WILL cause a vibration (even if the tire is perfectly balanced). I tell customers all the time, "I can balance an egg, but it'll still ride rough." The runout will vary from tire to tire and brand to brand.

I just bought the nitto 555 extreme all the way around 275 front, 315 rear, I really like them. Very good traction and very quiet. I had BFG KDWs before, good road holding tire but very noisy compared to the nitto. The nitto invo is supposed to be even quieter so that might be the tire for you. If you look on the nitto web site you will see their ratings for noise and performance.
