I was driving my 87 stopped in the store
came back out, she only turns over. If I leave the
key on for ten secs, she starts for about
2 secs then dies. Waiting for flatbed now.
Any ideas?

Confirmed plenty of gas in the tank?
Gauge has been know to read wrong leaving people thinking that they have more gas that what they actually do
Page 1, any auto mechanic book: Auto engines require fuel and air and in the correct ratio, spark and spark at the right time, and compression in order to start and run.
Measure fuel pressure and see if it holds up for a long time after the ignition is turned off. It should be 35-42 psi. Rapid drop can be leaky fuel injector/s or defective check valve in the fuel pressure regulator. Use your timing light during cranking to see if you have spark and spark at the right time. Buy a noid light, or make one with an LED (light emitting diode) and a series 680 ohm resistor and connect it across the connector of an unplugged injector and crank the engine. You should see pulses. Homemade noid light must be connected with the correct polarity. Spray starting fluid into the MAF and attempt a start, this tests if your engine is getting fuel. Measure compression.
In the tank or off the gauge?
Happened to a buddy last month; hit the freeway, car died.Plenty of gas showing on gauge , couldn't get it to start , got towed home.
When he started fault finding at home found his gauge unit in tank had gone out, giving false readings
My car is doing the same thing too. I've got the dash apart trying to see if the problem is with the harness into the IP. Didn't start having the problem til AFTER I changed me pump. I wonder if maybe the sending unit is bad or maybe the wiring harness is bad when I plugged everything back together?
