Default Primary cooling fan died last night

Since I cant fix it myself it may be a while but what are common causes of this? Best I can figure it might be something as simple as a short or as complicated as the fan motor. If this is the case how much of a pickle is it to replace the fan on an 85.

Thanks my Corvette brethren!

It is very easy, I did it at the track on a competitors Vette. 30 to 45 min. job. The motor can be purchased at any auto parts store.

I'd check the fan relays, first. Long time no holler, stranger!

very easy. Most likely the fuse, relay, or the motor. The nut that holds the fan blades on the motor's shaft is reverse threaded....if I recall correctly.

When mine was dying, it took out the fusible link, between battery and fan relay.
Dig out your test light.
This is from my 86 FSM, should help you diagnose.

Unplug the fan connector and give the red wire straight shot of 12 volts and ground the black. If the fan doesn't move, replace the fan. If it does, check why there is no voltage behind the connector.

Im gonna try the fan relay, that's something I can handle on my own, the fan motor probably more than I can do. I wish I was more mechanical, the poor old vette is on a curve of decay and the decay is quickly outrunning my ability to maintain the car when I cant even do the simplest thing but have to pay someone

Missed this place thanks for the warm welcome back!

Run straight 12v to the fan motor from the battery, he other spade to GRND , if it does not run, its the motor
