I just realized this tonight. I wound the LT1 out a bit high and noticed it hits the fuel cut at what appears to be about 5800 rpm on the tachometer. Now, I thought a bone stock LT1 has a fuel cutoff at 6300 rpm? I do know redline is lower than that. Am I incorrect on the fuel cut off rpm or is my tachometer about 500 rpm off on the high side?
If it is reading inaccurately, is there a fix? Does anything wear out and cause it to lose its accuracy? Recalibration possible?
the tach in my '95 has always lagged behind when I'm winding it out.
And it's gotten worse now that I have a quicker reving engine w/the aluminum flywheel.
Well I guess that settles that. My tach must be pretty accurate. I know the hashed off 'redline' area on the tach begins at 5500 but for some reason I thought actual fuel cutoff was 6300. Just out of curiosity, it was mentioned the LT4 has fuel cut at 6300 rpm but what is the redline?
I know the LT4 has improved breathing but what is the mechanical difference that allows for the higher rev? Is it simply a matter of the addition of roller rockers and better valve springs that allow for the increased rev capability?
