50w vs HID foglights
Alright guys, I am pondering a fog light upgrade. I have seen many threads of people going from the stock bulb to using a 50w bulb (and higher amp fuse), and seen several threads from stock to HID.
My question is: What is the difference between 50w and HID's? Do people install HID's just so they can say they have HID fogs? All I want is a brighter, white light for the fogs.

I'm very happy with the 50w, but some like the bright l.e.d. look. If I had to I could drive at night with them. And no, they don't melt the plastic lens.

HID fog lights are amazing. The light travels extremely far, illuminating signs, road lines, and animal eyes. I'm very pleased with mine. I'm using HID fogs as my only lights.

I can see a difference with 50 W in mine, but they are not like the normal headlights IMO.
p.s. I don´t even have a 15 amp fuse in there.
The 10 amp never blew on me once.
And I like to keep things stock as possible.

the only problem ive ever had w 50watts is some smaller guage wiring harnesses get hot, after a long time this can make the harness connector brittle and break, or the plastic can melt/get distorted. hid's actually require less power than normal lights, and run much cooler. im not sure of the guage wiring on the c4 fogs, if its thick enough probably wont be an issue. if you go to a parts store in the help section they sometimes have heavy duty plug harnesses.

There is, but very minimal, at least for my taste. I think if you were going for a non-HID upgrade it would do fine. I'm just looking for something that stands out a lil more than these 50w bulbs did.
You guys who did install HID fogs, where did you get them? I'm trying to find a set in the 4300 range but seem to be finding a bunch of dead ends instead. Everybody's got the 5k's and much higher.

Well I put an HID conversion in our 87'vert and keep popping the fuse! It was a pretty simple install and almost a direct plug and go. When I had just one of them in I tried them out and what a BIG difference they made!! Now to figure out why I am popping the fuse they should not draw that much just havent had time to check it out.

I did high wattage bulbs in other vehicles and then did the HID on the last one and all I can say - don't even waste the money on the conventional bulbs - they're no where near the output of the HID's
One note - just be sure not to choose the extremely colored versions - I think the 3800-5200k versions are the highest light output (in lumens) - search around for some of the HID sellers - the yellow and blue end of the spectrums give about 1/2 the output of the highest whiter ones...

Not to hijack but just what size of fuse are you guys using I keep popping the OEM one! As far as the balast goes you will have plenty of room inthe well to either side of the headlight housing on the floor. There was plenty of wire to hook it up with.
Good luck wro87
PS: Don't go over 6500k as far as output the bigger the number more blue/puple they get. 6500k is suppose to be the equal of noon day sun in the sahara.

I didn't change the fuse, but I remember the instructions talking about it if that happens. What do they say? I looked and can't find them.
