Default will this hurt your transmission?

is it ok to keep your automatic in drive rather than o/d while driving slow. i hate when it shifts to o/d at 42 mph. of course i always shift to o/d when i get on the highway or if i am going faster. is this bad for the tranny?

It is fine. Also it will keep the tranny from hunting around all 4 gears and only give it 3 choices. :)

I always keep my Tranny in "D", unless I am on the parkway.

I shift into OD if I'm going to be at a sustained speed above 45 or 50.

It's better for the tranny to keep it out of OD.

The mechanics behind this is in third gear, all gear elements are 'locked' so that the engine rotation is directly coupled to the driveshaft. Minimal wear occurs when in third gear due to no gear mesh movement.

Does it hurt economy? Yes, slightly, but what the heck...you bought a Corvette, not a 4 banger mileage mizer. :D

Same here except w/ my 2.59 axle I wait until about 60 before pushing up one notch into OD :D

When on mine I can hit ~120mph and still be in drive with room to spare. You are fine.

I do this in all of my vehicles. I think it is easier on the trans than all of that back and forth shifting at low pressure levels. The car certainly feels better. I think GM set the shift point to low to get better CAFE scores.
I don't shift up until it is 55-60 and steady.
