Replacing distributor drive gear! Anyone done it?
 Apparently at some point someone installed a pre 1988 distributor in my engine and the distributor drive gear for the old flat tappet cam is not compatible with the roller cam
I have wear on the drive gear and am getting ready to replace it
Anyone done this? Are there any tricks to getting the old drive pin out? I ordered a new gear from GM, but they couldn't tell me If it comes with a new drive pin. Can I use the old pin?
Any tricks on the reinstall?
Thanks
Jack

It is just as easy as it looks like it should be. Drive the roll pin out with a drift or whatever. Slide the old gear off and the new one on. The roll pin is a spring and expands into the hole. Just tap it into place. The old one is totally re-useable. If you put the gear on upside down (very possible) it won't engage with the oil pump shaft when you put it back in the engine, and the distributor won't drop all the way in. Don't ask how I know that.
