My '91 with auto-trans is having trouble on the first to second shift. If you have your foot in it it does fine but when normal (slow) driving it stumbles bad. It's like the ignition is totally shut off for a second, the car totally falls on it's face then accelerates normally. I do have a code 32 for the EGR which I haven't done anything about yet. Would this cause the stumble?
Thanks, Chuck
I finally changed the EGR valve along with the injectors this weekend and the engine definitely runs smoother and no more check engine lights, but the first to second shift still stumbles under normal driving. Idling out shift doesn't stumble, foot to the floor shift doesn't stumble and manually shifting it at various rpms doesn't stumble, just normal driving. I did notice that the 'first to fourth' light comes on right before first to second shift when it stumbles. The 'first to fourth' light just applies to standards, doesn't it. Why woukd it be coming on with my automatic?

On my 89, you can see where the light would be in the DIC (cheaper to use common parts?).
Maybe his doesn't have the original ECM or ECM Chip? Not sure if that would have anything to do with the stumble, but may have something to do with the shift light coming on????
