lightweight racing seats in a c4? what seat? where do I get the brackets?
Im looking to drop some weight in my c4. Stock seats (and power brackets) weigh in at 45 lbs per seat.
Racing seats are typically 12 lbs per seat. Sparco or Recaro seem to be the best.
That could save a lot of weight.
This is for a street/strip car.
Has anybody went with these in their C4? what did you use and where did you get (or how did you make) the bracket?
Its my understanding most racing seats are too wide for the narrow dimensions of the c4. However, there are some that work.
I plan to leave in place my stock seat belts (for street use) and put in a harness for the track use.

I mounted an Ultra Shield Pro Race 20° 16” using Hard Bar mounts in my 85 track car. Fits well.
I am sure the Hard Bar mounts will work with most any race seat you want to try. Give Gary a call at Hard Bar USA and I am sure he can give you suggestions about what seats will fit in a C4 and work with his seat mounts.

I saw a guy put the $99 cheapies from Kragen in his C4. He stated that he used the "old rails"
Whatever that meant....I've never taken apart C4 seats so I can't imagine anymore than the next guy.....

hardbar rails or fabricate your own.
I've seem a 20" aluminum seat installed in a c4!
It was a race car and did not need regular seatbelts.

I did some research and looked up Corbeau A4. They look pretty nice, like they support harnesses and would still prob work on the street.
They weigh 25 lbs a piece. Which is still a good 20 lbs * 2 (40 lbs total) weight savings vs. our stock seats.
I was hoping for 18 lbs per seat, or something like that after I added padding and the brackets...
However, that might be my best bet since Im looking for a seat thats still comfortable on 3 hour rides. I know Im probably asking a lot, but I want to make sure I have the best option covered.
Corbeau A4: What do you do for brackets? Do they come with their own? How do you mount them up in our cars?

I tried to adapt 85 rails to the Corbeaus. It has been done by someone here with a lot of fab skills and equipment. I quickly gave up and bought the Corbeau rails. The Corbeau seat/rails combo makes you sit much, much lower. My son is 6'5" and has comfortable head room. The Corbeau rails are much lighter than stock in case you were wondering.

Went through this exercise a few years ago. The seats in my '94 weighed 25-28 LBS each as I remember. Ended up moving the standard seat to the drivers side and taking out the electric seat when racing.

I think they are incredibly comfortable... just not sure if I would want to try to climb in and out as a daily driver. Probably not the best option should you ever decide to take a date somewhere in it either.

Even with the bottom cushion out and just a 2 inch pad, my helmet still hits on top. I need something lower so I don't have to lean forward all the time.

OK, one other important thing to think about.... are you going to mount a harness? If so, make sure the slots on the seat back are near the top of your shoulders and not lower that 2" below. Otherwise, in an accident you may compress your spine. Here's a link for proper harness installation. Remember, when it comes to safety equipment (which a good race seat is) everything is a part of a system; seat, harness, harness bar or "roll" bar, HANS device. The best bet is to find a local shop that sells them or contact the local Corvette Club in your area (I know Cleveland/Akron area has a bunch of good Corvette guys in that area that can help) and see if you can sit in a few of the autocross/strip/track guys cars to see how they fit you. Here's a link to the proper installation of a harness.

Good luck and be safe!

BTW: I had Sparco Rev seats in my '93 on 1" Sparco sliders and homemade floor mounts (flat steel) but stilll had to have the seat cushion out to have enough headroom with my helmet. I'm not a big guy 5'9". Also if your thinking about a fixed-back seat (better for safety) you'll hate trying to reach things in the back!
