M6 Tranny question...hard going into 3rd?
I'm about to do a swap from an A4 to M6 with this guy who wants my A4. He says he has one problem with his tranny....its hard to get into 3rd gear....it'll go into 3rd but not easily. He says its a bad syncro, but I don't know jack about trannys (as far as repairing them) Any ideas on what it could be? If it is a syncro, how much would it cost to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

we're talking about the ZF-6 tranny?
If it is:
When I bought my 89(my 1st vette) it had the GAGS enabled. Needless to say I ground synchros a couple times before I un-plugged that crap. I have difficulty going into 3rd somewhat frequently.
It is gonna be very expensive. Around $2~3K.

These trannys are dirt cheap to repair, There's a guy on the IL/Wisc border that replaces all the internals (gears/syncro/etc) for $600. New syncros are less than $100 for the carbon fiber ones. All in all, this is a great tranny and much cheaper to repair compared to the ZF. Also I heard the new Hurst shifter for this trans is great, the 2/3 shift is impossible to miss.
