Default Engine assembly and have 1 brace I can't ID the location for...

1989 C4, 6-speed, newer style denso a/c compressor - I have one last brace that I can't figure out where it goes - it's about 5.5" long, has the tabs with holes on a very slight angle and in the same 'rotation' - here's the braces I have installed:

- Long brace from A/C upper bolt to header
- Brace with 'L' shape from water pump to a/c bracket back side
- Brace from a/c bracket to fuel pump block-off plate
- R motor mount to p/s pump
- Intake to AIR pump bracket
- Alternator to header

I've got this one last bracket that I'm scratching my head on where it went....

EDIT - Added pic of support rod/bracket brace:

if it has the denso compressor there is another brace that goes from the a/c bracket to one of the bolts on the fuel pump block of plate.

The vehicle is a 1989 C4, all stock accessories, 6-speed transmission.

I don't have one on there - where did that one go from/to? I'm guessing the back of the starter to the block somewhere?

OH yeah - got that one too...

I'll try and get a pic this afternoon when I can get to the garage...

THANKS for all the ideas so far!

Another vote for an A/C brace.

I have a 1990 and when I ripped everything out to clean and paint all the engine parts; I had a brace just like that left. It turned out to be the brace under the air pump by the alternator...same length and size.I accidentally put the part on the passenger side during tear down and should have stayed on the drivers side parts bin.
Hope that helps...

Where on the air pump / alternator? The only one I recall is the one that goes to the engine block bolt for the motor mount and it's from the power steering bracket? I've got that one installed but If there's another one there I can't remember where the heck it goes!

Looks like it's from the air pump to the intake mainfold, tie in next the the driver side front injector.

Its been 3 years since my experience. Sorry for my wrong placement. I know it went under the air pump. Should have gone out to the garage for a proper look.My excuse is that Im retired and have "Sometimers"

Thanks -I know I had one that went from the intake manifold to the air injection pump's back-side - if that's the one you're talking about I've already got that one installed (at least I thought I remembered doing it) Guess I'll double-check tomorrow night when I've got time to get out to the garage and work on it a little more and take another inventory of where I have braces installed...

I think I've gotten all 3 - off the top of my head - one from the bracket to the fuel pump blockoff, one from the bracket to the water pump bolt, and then one from the a/c pump upper back bolt to the manifold stud.

If it's not one of the (3) A/C or (1) AIR support brackets, then it has to be your rear alternator brace or power steering braces. Based on it's appearance, it looks way more like your rear ALT brace.

In the OEM setup, the rear ALT brace goes from the #1 exhaust tube bolt to the outer hole on the rear of your alternator (ALT). When you go to headers, you should fab up a replacement.

Calderone has the most recent thread on this. I probably put a pic in it too.

Edit: After reading the OP, I can't think of another brace you didn't mention! Sure you don't have an extra! LOL
