Bad idle surge after tuneup???
Hey Fellas,
Ok, so my buddies 94 has developed a bad idle surge after a major tuneup. He replaced the plugs, wires, EGR, O2's, fuel filter, and air filter. The car now has a major stumble around 1000rpm's. When out driving it today it would surge to around 1500rpm's and then randomly stall. He got it to my place and with it in gear and surging bad at idle I disconnected the TPS and all was well. As long as the TPS stayed unplugged it would run fine. The second it was plugged back in the rough idle would return. He would like to make sure this is the issue before dropping $70 bucks for the TPS. My logical conclusion says this is the problem but looking for a second opinion. Thanks!!!!

There are no codes and check ASR light comes on only when TPS is unplugged.

If the TPS in your car is like those found in the earlier c4s, you should have a 5 volt reference signal in one of the 3 wires. The other is the ground and the last is the tps output which should vary from .5 to 5 volts throughout it's operating range. (my numbers may be off, but the concept is correct. A tps can be checked before replacement). Willie
