1985 stock oil cooler hose replacements
Has anyone here ever replaced the two small (intake & return) oil hoses hooked up to the stock oil cooler right above the oil filter on an 85? If so, where did you get them as they are preformed? Should I just replace them with a straight hose and try to cut them to fit?

I got the block to cooler from Chevy, used straight on the other one.
Hint: there are bunches of different shaped heater hoses out there, take your hose to a parts store for a match. You will likely have to do some cutting but I'll bet there is a fit somewhere.

I threw that thing away years ago. I eliminated the chance of a couple things happening. Coolant leak at the lines and the inside of that thing leaking water into my oil. My oil temp have not had any issues with the removal of the OIL WARMER.

Coming out of the block, I used a 3/8 npt, 90 degree barbed 5/8" fitting. Then a straight piece of 5/8" hose going from the fitting to the cooler. The other hose Was a long 5/8' heater hose going to the water pump. Eliminates having to buy the GM piece.

Good Fitting Oil Cooler Lines
Decicided to replace the 25 year old factory oil cooling lines down at the oil filter, unable to find them at local parts suppliers or the internet. These are often overlooked hoses that get eaten away by leaking oil and not easy to replace out on the roadside, if you can buy them . Ended up taking the old hoses to NAPA Auto parts and after sorting through a box of 5/8 heater hose lines I came up with the solution. Turned out that I was able to duplicate the curves and formed bends (really close) for both hoses from one hose assembly. I duplicated a replacement hose from each end of the new hose, made 2 out of 1. It is a NAPA part number 11138. It think it was for a Honda car . I measured and trimmed them to fit perfectly with no kinks. The price from NAPA was $19. Pictures should show below, I hope.

You may not have one ;was a optional extra
Does your RPO label have KC4 on it ?
If listed on RPO label ,look for this fitting between the engine block and oil filter ( many have been removed by previous owners ) with it's two coolant hoses

The hose between the block and the oil cooler started leaking several years ago. After a lot of research I found that no new ones existed. I bought a used one.

I could not find factory preformef oil cooler hoses for my '88 either. The NAPA store had generic preformed hoses, that with some cutting and trimming worked perfectly. dd

i've been thinking in deleting it , i haven't got the guts if its good for 10° , it's good for me but ...just to avoid a potential leak or whatever thing , on my engine for me ..the more simple it is , the better !

I've never had a leak. I use it at the strip mainly to heat up the oil. Between rounds, a 45 minute wait will bring the oil temperature below 150. With the cooler/heater, the oil heats up quicker because the water is at a higher temperature.

Man! I hate to re-hash an old thread. I have aspirations of removing the stock oil cooler from my 88 Z51 and as near as I can tell (from looking at a million pictures) that the oil cooler is spin on. Was wondering if anyone can verify this for me? Was not sure if I would have to by a "spin on" adaptor or not. Thanks...

Nice! I was looking at it a couple months ago and the area where the hose is attached was totally rusted! I moved it a bit to check if the hose was tight and guess what! it broke right away, I don't know how come it did not break while driving! it was a tiny effort to break it so ....what's needed to delete this?
i want to put the filter right there but i think i will need to cap something in the block and the hoses, i will be pulling the engine soon as well so i will be doing all of this. Thanks in advance C4Crew!
