Default What Does the Rear Passenger Side Oxygen Sensor on a 94 LT1 Do?

Its an OBD1 car, the drivers side has an Oxygen Sensor before the cat, yet the passenger side has one before the cat and one after.

I often wondered the same thing. I would suspect it has something to do with monitoring the exhaust before and after the cat but then why wouldn't it be on both sides?

The rear passenger O2 sensors on 94 and 95 vettes only can be removed or disconnected without any codes being set.You could use it as a spare if needed when 1 of the fronts go out. This was just part of the pre OBDII change over for 96 when both rear O2's were required and would need to be tuned out or simulators installed to keep from setting a code.

IMHO, the logical explanation for the O2 sensor after the cat would be for the purpose of monitoring the effectiveness/proper operation of the cat by providing a before and after O2 level to the ECM.

It's just checking to make sure the cat is doing it's job. Only one will tell the story, and it's less money the manufacturer has to spend.

Agreed, removed it from my 94 and welded the hole closed. No codes.
