drag tire question
I though about going to the MT radials. I've heard these are the best DOT for launching. It wouldnt make sense for me to buy the MT's if it's not going to be much of an improvement though. Could I expect any better than a couple of 1.7 with the MT's? What kind of 60's are others getting? Hopefully better then my Sumi's. If I got consistant 1.7x and lower, I'd be pretty happy and it would be worth the swap.
I know they are not ment for the rain but how bad are they when wet?
Thanks
Launching an Auto is much easier than a 6spd - espc a 6spd with a monster clutch and the kind of HP my car has.
Race cars at my local 1/8th mile track running close to the same times as me are running high 1.5 60ft's and still trapping 6-8 mph lower than me. Cars with my MPH are running 1.40 60's. There are NO street driven cars that have anywhere near the ET or MPH my car does for me to compare myself to. BTW my best 1/8th mile is 7.35@99.96MPH but I'm getting faster every week I go, as I continually perfect my launch.
A buddy of mine there has a decent running 347 Fox Mustang with a C4 auto and 3800 stall... On 275/50R15 MT radials he is cutting 1.50 60fts running 7.40's and trapping 91-92MPH.
I also know a few folks with automatic C4 Corvettes on NO2 that have run 1.50 60fts.
My MT radials have been driven in a few down pours on the street... anything over 50mph resulted in hydroplanning for me. But in normal dry weather they are stable at any speed and even corner OK.

Good luck at the track.

Thanks for the info on the tires. I don't like messing with hydroplanning at all.
Dana 44 rear with 3.45 gear and a Yank 3800 stall torque converter.
You can probably air them down another lb or so.

Sorry to Hi-Jack
Rklessdriver-How is the tranny and rear holding out? What RPM do you leave the starting line?

Dana 44

Dana 36

Comparison

I have a Super Ram 355 with a 3200 Vigilante Converter and 3.07 Dana 36
Street tires are useless so i got NITTO555R's ...but i will be on borrowed time
Dana 36 + Drag radials , 3.07 and High stall is a time bomb ...Kaboom anytime !
I really need a Dana44 and i believe you too !

Last time at only 10.5SCR and with an unported intake it made 478RWHP@6800RPM.
I think the changes are worth maybe 10-20RWHP. I talked with a local guy about making some pulls on his Dyno Jet to see how far off the tune is... Looks like maybe next week we can get together and re-dyno it.

ZF6 Tranny is rock solid and I am not worried about it at all.
The D44 has held up pretty well considering. I have 2 center sections. One with a 4.11 Yukon gear set and one with a 3.91 Dana gear set.
Last season I was running the 3.91 gear and the car wouldn't leave worth a crap. I was leaving at 4500RPM and either bogging or spinning... the one time I really tried launched it - broke the U Joints in both half shafts, destroyed both halfshafts and one outer stub axel.

The damage.

This year I'm running the 4.11 gear and the car is working great so far. I upgraded the replacement halfshafts to the Spicer XL U Joints. I'm launching at 3500RPM and the car is much more responsive off the line. I'm still a bit timid on the clutch after last season - but you can see below it's leaving pretty good and flat out flying on the big end.

We will see how much faster I can go as this season progresses. Up until now I've still had the sway bar hooked up. Got it removed this week but we got rained out. I've still got to re dyno the car as I have no idea where the tune is with the modifications I made to the engine....
My goal has been 6.90's or 100mph in the 1/8th mile which puts me on some solid 10 sec 1/4 miles. I think that will be quite an accomplishment for a normally aspriated, pump gas, hyd roller camed 383 LT1.
I hope the OP dosen't mind the hi jack....

I am running DRs, and have slicks when I am serious, but as mentioned above, we are way apart on HP.
When I bought my new house in Oct of last year it put everything on hold for a while... There is just so much to do with that. Lucky I timed it right over the winter break.... now 4moths later I'm back to racing.
Good luck with everything.

Thanks for the info and posting the photos and video!
I would think that the sway bar is a good thing to keep as it will help keep the rear level on the launch. I see most fast cars have them and I am pretty sure all pro stocks utilize them.
