They are a soft rubber. I drop the pressure and I heat them up real good. Plus they drive pretty well in the rain.

I though about going to the MT radials. I've heard these are the best DOT for launching. It wouldnt make sense for me to buy the MT's if it's not going to be much of an improvement though. Could I expect any better than a couple of 1.7 with the MT's? What kind of 60's are others getting? Hopefully better then my Sumi's. If I got consistant 1.7x and lower, I'd be pretty happy and it would be worth the swap.

I know they are not ment for the rain but how bad are they when wet?

Thanks
I think we are worlds apart in HP. My car will spin a set of 315 Summis well into 3rd gear - Where I backed out because 80+MPH sideways is not something I care to do on a regular basis. I did run them when my 92 was stock and could run 2.0-1.9 60fts.... that all went away when I built the current engine (check my sig for details).

Launching an Auto is much easier than a 6spd - espc a 6spd with a monster clutch and the kind of HP my car has.

Race cars at my local 1/8th mile track running close to the same times as me are running high 1.5 60ft's and still trapping 6-8 mph lower than me. Cars with my MPH are running 1.40 60's. There are NO street driven cars that have anywhere near the ET or MPH my car does for me to compare myself to. BTW my best 1/8th mile is 7.35@99.96MPH but I'm getting faster every week I go, as I continually perfect my launch.

A buddy of mine there has a decent running 347 Fox Mustang with a C4 auto and 3800 stall... On 275/50R15 MT radials he is cutting 1.50 60fts running 7.40's and trapping 91-92MPH.

I also know a few folks with automatic C4 Corvettes on NO2 that have run 1.50 60fts.

My MT radials have been driven in a few down pours on the street... anything over 50mph resulted in hydroplanning for me. But in normal dry weather they are stable at any speed and even corner OK.

Crowhater -
Good luck at the track.

How much hp and torq from your 383 setup? Looks like you got a really mean build there. I havent been on the dyno. It something I've been meaning to do and get it tuned better. I was told I may be somewhere around 500hp. Last time out I was trapping 122mph in the 1/4 with a 1.9x 60'. I spray a 125 shot after 2nd. It was the middle of the summer though, July I believe. Everyone was running pretty poor that day.

Thanks for the info on the tires. I don't like messing with hydroplanning at all.

I am cutting a 1.75 60' on a stock size BFG drag radial with pressure dropped to 20lbs. I have a line loc and can do a great burn out to heat them up. Only had tire slip on launch once when it was 35 degrees out.

Dana 44 rear with 3.45 gear and a Yank 3800 stall torque converter.

You can probably air them down another lb or so.

We just got the N2O system dialed in at 75hp, I had to go up one jet size on the fuel side to control detonation. The timing is set at 6* and when the n2o comes on the knock sensor takes out 12* but it is not maxing out. The guy who was suppose to sell me those tires flaked out so it looks like I will be on street tires again. Clicking the n2o in second gear might work I will find out.

Thanks for the info on the tires. I don't like messing with hydroplanning at all.

I have not had the car back on a dyno since changining the compression ratio and porting the intake manifold.

Last time at only 10.5SCR and with an unported intake it made 478RWHP@6800RPM.

I think the changes are worth maybe 10-20RWHP. I talked with a local guy about making some pulls on his Dyno Jet to see how far off the tune is... Looks like maybe next week we can get together and re-dyno it.

Sorry to Hi-Jack

Steve,
ZF6 Tranny is rock solid and I am not worried about it at all.

The D44 has held up pretty well considering. I have 2 center sections. One with a 4.11 Yukon gear set and one with a 3.91 Dana gear set.

Last season I was running the 3.91 gear and the car wouldn't leave worth a crap. I was leaving at 4500RPM and either bogging or spinning... the one time I really tried launched it - broke the U Joints in both half shafts, destroyed both halfshafts and one outer stub axel.

The damage.

This year I'm running the 4.11 gear and the car is working great so far. I upgraded the replacement halfshafts to the Spicer XL U Joints. I'm launching at 3500RPM and the car is much more responsive off the line. I'm still a bit timid on the clutch after last season - but you can see below it's leaving pretty good and flat out flying on the big end.

We will see how much faster I can go as this season progresses. Up until now I've still had the sway bar hooked up. Got it removed this week but we got rained out. I've still got to re dyno the car as I have no idea where the tune is with the modifications I made to the engine....

My goal has been 6.90's or 100mph in the 1/8th mile which puts me on some solid 10 sec 1/4 miles. I think that will be quite an accomplishment for a normally aspriated, pump gas, hyd roller camed 383 LT1.

I hope the OP dosen't mind the hi jack....
Will

When you get ready to move to a D44 contact me. I can help you out, and I am just down the road from you.

I am running DRs, and have slicks when I am serious, but as mentioned above, we are way apart on HP.

I looked I have a Dana 36 and I am ready for a Dana 44 right now. Guys I have had this car for a little over 4 months and you can see all that I have done in that time, I am not playing around. I am moving into new house in two weeks so that has slowed me down some but once i get moved in and they get my shop up I will be going at this full time

D44 is a good upgrade for you. I would not expect that Dana 36 to last long putting the gun to it right out of the hole with traction.

When I bought my new house in Oct of last year it put everything on hold for a while... There is just so much to do with that. Lucky I timed it right over the winter break.... now 4moths later I'm back to racing.

Good luck with everything.

Will,

Thanks for the info and posting the photos and video!

I would think that the sway bar is a good thing to keep as it will help keep the rear level on the launch. I see most fast cars have them and I am pretty sure all pro stocks utilize them.

Steve
