Black oil from a/c compressor
When the a/c is running, a black oil is sprayed on the underside of the hood from the compressor. Is this coming from the clutch or the compressor and can it be fixed without buying a new compressor?

It can be fixed but a remanufactured compressor is just as expensive as fixing it. Make sure you clean off that oil from your hood ASAP...it can impregnate the fiberglass and make the paint above bubble.

It is most likely due to the shaft seal leaking. I would also suggest that you repalce the entire compressor. If you are going to switch the r134a you should change the orrifice tube and evaporator. Here are a couple useful links.

I have already switched to r134. I've seen metal shrouds that can be mounted to the compressor to stop the oil from splattering. I might fabricate something and see how much life the compressor has left.
