Turn Signal won't work: What to look for...
My turn signals won't work on my 88 Coupe. I was driving it the other day and they were just dead. What should I look for? Is it a fuse and if so which one? Is is wiring or a short? Give me some ideas to troubleshoot this problem.
Thanks in advance.

If they are anything like C5s and connected to the Hazard Relay, try playing with the hazard relay switch and see if they come on again. Sometimes, the turn signals and hazard relay switch are one in the same, and just jostling the hazard relay can get them working. If not, a fuse, I am stumped.

Try testing the Turn/Bu fuse. If your reverse lights work, the fuse should be good.

With oth R & L going out at once it's probably a fuse or hazard or turn signal switch but if not:
If you turn, say the right signal on, do any of the right side signals light? If so then you have power & should look at the bulbs and sockets of the dead lights. The blinker needs the current of both front & rear bulbs to blink. It's made that way to warn you that there's a bulb out.
I had intermittant blinkers w/ lights off & almost no blinkers & constant illumination of dash turn indicators with lights on. Turned out to be bad front bulb sockets (L & R) & a couple of bad side marker bulbs. Start off getting everything lit that should be lit with the parking lights on, then work on the blinkers. I had nightmares of somethig more coplicated than sockets/bulbs but had forgotten that most signal problems are bulb related.
Also, if the brake lights don't work it can be the turn signal switch because it has to interrupt the brake light to blink one side.

I checked the fuses again and they were all fine. No blinkers go off not on the outside or the inside of the car. Can one bulb effect both sides/both right and left blinkers. For some reason my hazards both work.
Would this suggest that it could be the flasher unit or relay switch like some have suggested? Oh yeah, what is a flasher unit and relay switch? What do they look like, where are they located and how do I check to see if they are bad?
This is puzzling.
Thanks for your help.

Sounds similar to my issue. I replace the flasher a round canister with two wires located on the passenger side up under the dash next to the ECM on the center console side of the car. It's a$2 piece. The hazards use a similar device which is mounted in behind the stereo. If you cannot hear a click then most likely the flasher is toast.

Pull the cover off under the passenger side dash. You should be able to reach a hand up and pull it down, replace it then place it back in its bracket. I did this with the roof out laying on my back and a flash light in my mouth, it's a tight space to get into.
You're looking for a small round canister with two wires going into it. I believe they're all located between the ECM and the center console.

When you say the passenger side dash do you mean around the breadbox? Or do you mean under area where the passengers feet go?
Sorry guys, I'm trying. I just bought a new flasher unit at NAPA today.

Remove that plastic piece, near where the passengers feet go, then get on your back, in the floorboard, and reach up into the dash from underneath.

The diagram looks correct, that's where it is on my 84 too. I was able to reach it by removing the access panel in the passenger foot well, reach a hand up and swap it out.

I have what sounds like the exact problem that just showed up on my 87. R/L turn signals dead, no indicator on dash or anything. Fuse is good and hazards are good.
I know now this is an old thread but would love to know if the issue was resolved or if anybody else has had the same issue.
