Default Replacing the battery L98 1989

Does the "computer" need be reset when changing the battery.
When disconnecting the battery?
What "computer" is this that neds a "reset?
Can this "reset" be avoided by changing the battery while the ngine is running?

I don't know...I'd kinda like to see you try that!

Seriously, the computer (aka ECM) clears memory w/o electricity. As mentioned above, it will "relearn" what it needs within a few minutes of driving. (It relearns the small changes necessary to optimize fuel injection for lowest emissions). Also, you might have to re-enter your radio station presets. NO BIG DEAL!

Do it right and change the battery with the car OFF!

Don't ever change a battery in a vehicle with the engine running.

The 12 volt battery acts like a filter- buffer for AC Ripple current that leaks past the Full wave rectifier bridge inside of the alternator.

And the alternator voltage regulator will be confused & likely put out over 18 VDC + back to the ignition system, And ECM- PCM and any other electronic devices in your C4.

Cost yourself alot of uneaded headaches and $$ expense in hurry otherwise.

I saw one guy replace his battery with the motor running just to see if he could pull it off. He used a battery charger. I told him he was lucky he didn't die.
